The Arrest of Ranjini, Keeping Abreast of Hamsaveni

Muhurtam
Janani in Kadir's office, requesting help for organizing the wedding, since no male relative on their side is avialable to set it up. Kadir requests his friend and colleague Tamizharasu to help her. Attraction seems to spark between the two as they go to a marriage organizer, who, Tamizharasu says, can set up everything for money. And since money is no object for the Janani (and Bharati) family, this is not an issue.

The couple is spotted by Janani's teacher's son (name not known), who immediately goes into mental agony, and approaches his father to set up his wedding to Janani right away. Father phones up Janani, and discovers that the wedding is for her sister, not her. He reassures his son.

Selvi
Big happenings.

Kanaga comes to Maya, who asks her what she's still doing in Madras, when she had asked her to leave town for Mumbay some days back. Kanaga assures her that she will not 'betray her craft', that is, not give out Maya's name to the police, even if roughed up by the police. She says she will blame it all on Ranjini, and then tell Ranjini Selvi put her up to giving out the name (don't look at me, I thought this was ridiculous too, but I'm just reporting the story). Devarajan, who is hearing the conversation, says to Maya that the situation was rife with opportunity. He then proceeds to call his servant, telling him to tip off the police where to find Kanaga. His theory is that Kanaga will tell the police about Ranjini, causing further hatred in Ranjini's heart for Selvi.

Accordingly, the police, after due chase, catch Kanaga. When beaten up in custody, she denies all connection to Maya, and finally reveals that it was Ranjini who hired her to take revenge on Selvi. The inspector goes to Ranjini's place. She is completely shaken, and he watches out of the corner of her eye as she spills milk, scatters sugar and is obviously in fear. When she sets down the coffee, the inspector asks her, "Do you know Kanagasri?" She answers, "No, Kala", and instantly realizes she has tripped up. Then she loses it completely, babbling about Kala and Kanaga. The inspector says, "I knew everything before coming here. I'm only here to arrest you".

Manaivi
Hamsaveni's baby is crying. Thangam (Ramani's mother) is of the opinion that it is pining for mother's milk. Meanwhile, Hamsaveni is shown in agony (the result, her aunt says, of milk buildup in her breasts). Thangam, after sending Ramani and Krishnaveni out of the house, brings the child to Hamsaveni's house, where both child and mother find relief.

Tiruchelvam visits Divya and her parents, and advises her that if she really wants Kadir and Rohini to marry, she should first get married, to assuage their guilt. Her parents also second his arguments. Finally, Divya acceds to his request.

Krishnaveni is shown talking to Ratnam's wife, who is desperately asking her to drop the case against Velu. Krishnaveni finally says, tellingly, "Is it Velu who killed Appa?", meaning, "Or was it you?"
