SUN TV cedes Kashmir to Pakistan

I was watching Selvi yesterday (July 21), and was struck by a scene showing a police station with the Indian map with a truncated Kashmir, without the Pakistan-occupied sections. Here, see for yourself.

This is Amar and GJ going to the police station to report Andavan and Karthan are missing. Let us hope they have not been abducted by Hezbollah and taken to Azad Kashmir. The TN cops had a difficult enough time finding Veerappan within the state. To seek someone in an area that's not even part of the country (according to SUN TV) will be practically impossible. What a gaffe. SUN's grasp of history is always suspect, but doesn't anyone know geography either?

...And, poor Assam and the rest of the NE States, almost falling off.

This is not funny. It is embarrassing that a national (should say international) channel like Sun tv has made such a blunder. Shame on them, and kudos, Suntvian, for catching it.

Yes, good catch. And very pathetic that such a crude map has been broadcast. SunTV is to be blamed for airing it. But the real fault is with Radaan & director of this serial - whoever that is. SunTVian, I suggest emailing Radaan with a complaint letter.

I missed that until a friend forwarded your post. Wow! What a boo-boo! Shows they are more preoccupied with thaali's than with a correct map. Good idea to write to Radaan. I'm sure they feel ashamed.

I agree with a previos commenter that its Radaan's fault not SUnTV. But, is a shame for all of us that a prime TV show does not know the map of the country. Could it be becasue Selvi is from Sri Lanka?

Take it easy, guys. Its only a TV show. No need to get so upset. How come you are able to tolerate wife beating, bigamy, police torture and child abuse which is the staple of all these shows, but get so upset when ignorant fool draws a map wrongly? Where are your priorities? Grow up.

Looks as though the Assam and northeast will going to fall into sea and float towards TN! More audience for Suntv.

Sad that they are so careless with important things like this, while being so concerned with silly stuff. Why do we even watch this trash? Thank you for pointing this out. It is really painful.

come on, guys. give radaan a break. they do a pretty tough job to come up with a daily production. occassionally things like this can happen. don't tell me you have never fouled up. and what's this about the selvi show being canceled? is it true? doesnt'look like it from the story.

It is in poor taste to put up such a crude map. Even cheap maps available in the store are much better. And notice, the map has no information other than outline and the flag colors. Why would a police officer have a map with no road, city or other information up in his office?

I feel to comment one's mistake of the background and setting while filming is not very desirable. To err his human nature. If there is anything wrong with the way the plot moves, I think it is okay to pin point because, they should have edited a story before airing it. Moreover, such minute details could have been missed by those unit working selvi for they might have been busy trying to move on the story rather than the setting. In fact, during the time the episode revolved around Singapore, there were some factors overlooked regards to setting being wrongly used for the wrong reason. For instance, the hotel Selvi featured to have stayed with her mother and baby is not a hotel at all. It is a Country Club. To have featured that all receptionist only talked in Malay instead of English first is not true of the Singapore system. I am a Singaporean, definitely I know that this is not the right thing. But I guess she had to make a twist inorder to get her story moving. Can't blame because for them to get venue or approval for filming a hotels may have been denied due to our tight security in Singapore. Thus, lets not focus on their minor mistake. In fact, I agree with one of the anonymous writer saying that if we need to have a discussion it should be on "the wife beating, bigamy, police torture and child abuse which is the staple of all these shows". Because by playing such episodes in international Tv, they just giving the viewer from another country a bad impression of the culture and practices of India. In fact, I have always despised India for the corruptions and the way the policeman are doing duty listening the rich and those in power. I have never visited India and never wanted even when I had an opportunity once because I was scared of this kind of system. But at the same time, when I watch nice things in India being featured, I wished to go there for holidays sometime. So, I think such mistakes that has happened in Selvi should not be critized or made fun off to this extent. It is very uncivilized. Moreover, from what i have heard about the political change that has taken place in India, I think to critize Selvi knowing it is Radhika's show and that she has left Mr Karunanithi's political party and because Sun Tv belongs to his family, some of those who critized her based on this mistake, I feel that there is an element of political biasness in your comments. I am sorry if I hurt anyone with my frank comments. I was just stating my concerns, moreover, I have no biasness against alies of any political parties for I am not a Indian National. I am a pure Singaporean. Thus, I am just giving my true concerns as a neutral party. Thus, do not be offended by comments.

The Singaporean who has written a long and detailed comment that criticism should be focused on the plot and not on trivial set problems makes a very good argument, and I would normally have agreed. In this case, given that Kashmir is such a huge issue in the Indian history of the past half-century, this is a huge error, and an embarrassing one. But Selvi need not feel so bad. I have seen Indian Embassy websites which show the American version of the Indian map, with both the Pak-occupied section and the China-occupied sections chopped off!

Selvi at least has only given up the Pakistani section and made no concessions to China.

In any case, details are important, and it is not wrong to set high standards. After all, these people receive obscen amounts of money for a career that is hardly essential to society. Huge amounts are spent on these things. And whether or not one is paid less or more, as the saying goes, if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well.

I know it is embarassing to make mistakes on maps and I truely agree with your point of view. But my point was simply to say let's not over critize the one who made a blunder for everyone makes mistake. I only wrote a long comment to bring out the point that if one has to get agitated to this detail featured in international tv then there are more issues to be worried about. And I agree that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well but my point is if the something worth is not done well, done ponder over it but take it as a learning journey for a better one. And I believe, good work should be appreciated in public, not satisfactory, silently let them know so that they could improvize. To publically talk of one's mistake is not good. Write to Radaan's Production. Anyway, I appreciate the writer who had responded to my earlier comments.I am once again sorry if I had said anything undesirable. Once, I commented that we should appreciate the person who update each episodes and ask them politely if they could update the next episode rather than ask them to update in a commanding manner. I believe I did or might have offend(ed) some then. I guess this is going to be my second time. I do not want to offend anyone anymore. I would ensure this is my last comment or else I think I would be making avenue for one to form the impression that I am a Singaporean who is not understanding or is rathy bossy. Please accept my sincere appologies if I have hurt anyone. Goodnite!
