KOLANGAL
Tirivengadam begins his blackmail of Karpagam by saying he doesn't like her living separately from her husband in the same city. She pleads with him not to reopen all this for the disruption it would cause. When she leaves, he gives a silk saree to his wife. She asks what golmaal he did to get this. He says nothing, this was a gift of relationship. And, he adds, one that will continue giving.

Ganga tells off Tolkappian, saying that after he remained silent when Abhi threw her out, she no longer wants to see him. His repeated "Ganga naan..." does not get him anywhere, he walks out.

Abhi goes to Tolkappian's home. He is not home. Finds his diary on his desk. It chronicles his infatuation with Ganga, his telling her mother he could see himself marrying her, etc. etc. ending with the final episode where she has bid him goodbye. She has tears in her eyes by the time she finishes. She stuffs the diary into her purse, and leaves, saying to Shanti she has urgent work.

SELVI
Selvi goes to the commissioner's office, where they are going to bring GJ. There, Pandian's men have smuggled Chellapillai in a container. He is dressed in a police uniform, but also carrying a revolver. As GJ comes in view, he positions himself. At the last minute, Selvi sees him. She rushes to GJ and pushes him out of the way, saving his life. The bullet hits a policeman.

Pandian is disappointed. Claims he is now going to kill Andavan, probably. Chellapillai is deep in thought.

Mahima has fallen in love with a young temple priest. She tells him of her problem, of being clairvoyant. He says her name itself suggests that.
PENN
Ranga blasts Mohini for getting above herself. Says her parents were penniless and it was she who lifted them up from the gutter and gave her mother a share in the company. Mohini is silenced. She says, if I make Deepa MD tomorrow, there is nothing you can do. And if I want, I can do it too. As she speaks, Kala is entering the room to see what's going on. She follows Ranga back to her room and says, looks like you've decided to make Deepa MD, and this was a sly way of telling me about it. Ranga insists she has no such plan, this wasjust something she said on the spur of the moment. But Kala does not believe her. Ranga says oK then, I will make Deepa MD. She says finally, there have been so many things wrong for that girl, I feel this is the way I can atone.

KOLANGAL
Easwaran and Tiruvengadam meet and reminisce over where Time has led them, each astray in his own way. Easwaran extracts a promise from the other that the will not reveal his secret. Tiruvengadam asks for 50000 rupees. Easwaran says he will arrange for it. Tiruvengadam knows he has found a perennial source for blackmail. He returns home. Karpagam is visiting. He drops some hints saying he saw someone identical to his brother. His wife says she has never even seen a photograph (can you believe there would not even be a photo lying around?).

Abhi goes to the construction site. Tols is not there, but Shanti is. She says Tols was very upset that she did not understand him. Abhi proceeds to the office. She finds Ganga talking to Tols, poisioning his mind against Abhi, saying Abhi is just trying to exploit him. After listening for a while she barges in and confronts Ganga, saying she has been trying to create bad blood between two old friends, and proceeds to give a rather long and unnecessary explanation of their friendship. Ganga scoffs. Says in that case, why have you been treating him like dirt? Abhi doesn't have an easy answer. She asks Ganga to get out. Ganga stands her ground, saying she is not Abhi's employee, she works for Rajamani madam.  In that case, call her right now, and leave. Finally Ganga leaves. She turns to talk nicely to Tols, but he has followed Ganga out, without a word.

SELVI
Amar has James call both Selvi and Tamarai, independently, and say the words, GJ will be killed on his trip to the Commissioner's office. Selvi first rushes to the station and tells Clouseau, who takes it with a grain of salt. She tries to talk to GJ, who says he won't talk to her. She leaves. Then Tamarai comes, tells Clouseau the same thing. He says he will safeguard GJ as a citizen of India (should that raise GJ's hopes?) should be. Tamarai tells GJ about the phone call, and GJ's mind is in a whirl, who could it be, Amar, Pandian, Andavan...?

Tiny mini-drama at Rombatoomuch's. The servant has declared that Mahima has supernatural powers, and assembles a large number of people to seek predictions and advice. Seeing this, Mahima quietly slips out of the house.

PENN
Ranga returns to the office. Mohini approaches Chitra and proposes a truce, at least as far as Deepa is concerned. We need to get her out of the way,she tells Chitra. On her advice, Chitra brings a note to Ranga saying that Deepa did not come to office for two months during Ranga's absence, and so she is cutting her salary. Ranga says Deepa is her personal assistant, and will be where she is. First give her back the salary with interest. Chitra blurts out that this is Mohini's plan. She, after all, works for Mohini.

Badri and Ranga are listening to some KFP's sales agents in Madurai. They have received a rude and threatening letter from KFP, asking them to deposit 5 lakh rupees in advance right away, failing which their contract would be cancelled. Ranga reassures them, asks them to hang on to their money, and promises to inquire. When they are gone, Badri advises her to keep her cool and not confront Mohini about this right away.

But Ranga goes over to Mohini's office. Mohini treats her with contempt.

At Ranga's new place, everyone from the family has moved here. Thatha is losing his memory. Bharani comes over to ask for 15 lakhs. He suggests sedlling his grandmother's jewelry. Thatha says he has forgotten where he kept it when they moved here. Talk of Deepa, who has been missing for two days.

(Did not watch -- thanks to RV for summary)

KOLANGAL
The committee members manage to separate Adi from Abhi's neck, and persuade him to apologize. When she comes back to the office, Rajamani madam criticizes her for creating trouble with Adi. Abhi comes home, where she finds Easwaran and his wife Kanchana have come to quarrel with Karpagam about Abhi's complaint and insult to Adi. At this time, Tiruvengadam also comes to see Karpagam, and there is a silent embarrassment as Tirvengadam and Easwaran eye each other.

SELVI
Selvi talks to Pooja, and tells her that her goading has led Pasupathi to jail. She should not make him stray when he wants to turn his life around.
Pandian orders that GJ be killed inside the prison. Amar conveys the news to Selvi, who is shocked.

PENN
Ravindran comes on hearing of Vaikunth's death. Sivadhanu tells him to come home, so that he may perform the ceremonies for Dr. Vaikunth, because Manohar is not in any position to do so. Deepa goes back and reports to Ranga about what has happened. She says Ravindran and Akash are next. Ranga is worried, but cannot say anything.

KOLANGAL
Adi is in a frenzy, shouts and screams, saying Abhi, not only are you ahead of me in business, you are ahead of me even in birrrrrrrthththththt!!!!! As he says this, Abhi comes out of the room, managing to push her way out, and despite everyone rushing Adi and trying to take the gun away, he aims it at Abhi. She says, OK, shoot, go ahead.

At this point, Karpagam wakes up. The Adi gun thing is all a dream. She is all upset that a dream like this indicates a foretelling of what will happen.

Meanwhile, grandmother is afraid that Anjali will spill the beans. She talks to Anjali, and discovers she is very angry with her. To her relief she finds that it is only because she has talked with Karpagam. She did not hear any of the conversation.

Adi has a birthday celebration at the temple. Minister presents him with a car. Minister insults Usha's parents, who depart in protest and sorrow, when Adi refuses to speak up for them. Usha too leaves. Adi gets a phone call from the builders association, asking him to come immediately.

He goes, and finds a committee of three sitting, with Abhi also there. Abhi has registered a complaint against his interfering in her business. When the committee members inquire, Adi launches into a personal diatribe against Abhi, her mother, her sisters, etc. The members try to say these are personal matters, he says no, everything is related. When Abhi gets up to protest, he proceeds to catch her by the neck and strangle her. The members rush to stop him.

SELVI
Selvi bails out Pasupathi. He is grateful. Never has anyone done anything kind for him. She says she will get him an honest job, and sends him to Sathya. She says he should not meet Pooja until she says so. He is her devotee now, and agrees to whatever she says.

Amar is taken to meet Pandian. Pandian says he cannot confirm whether his father is well. Amar says he will give him many times what GJ has given. Pandian says that would be against his ethics. Amar says GJ will betray you. Pandian says if he even dreams of that he will be dead. Finally the throws Amar out, and scolds Chellapillai for bringing him to this hideout.

Selvi calls Pooja and tells her that Pasupathi has been arrested.

PENN
Sivadhanu whispers to Manohar that the Anjali ghost has acquired the form of his father, Dr. Vaikunth (a brilliant ploy). When  Vaikunth comes up, Manohar gets all agitated. When Vaikunth tries to calm him, he picks up the knife. Vaikunt sends Sivadhanu to get the injection to calm him. When he returns, he finds Vaikunth lying at the bottom of the stairs, dead, with Manohar celebrating that Anjali the Ghost is dead. Deepa comes, and sees the scene. Manoher sees her, and thinks she is Vaikunth (this is rombatoomch). She leaves, telling Sivadhanu to call the police, which he does.

Dr. Sivaraman and police inspector come, the latter orders a post-mortem, and says Manohar should be put in a mental hospital. Dr. Sivaraman offers to cooperate with all the relevant medical files, etc.

Solaiappan orders a sidekick to make all of Bharani's cars disappear, so that he may come screaming to him.

KOLANGAL
Adi is furious, and hsi anger is raised even more when he discovers he is the object of ridicule among businessmen in the city regarding his being confronted in his office by Abhi. He declares that he will settle scores once and for all.

His grandmother hears this and wants to warn Abhi to be careful. She calls Karpagam to meet her at the temple. But Anjali decides to come along with her. She sends Anjali off to do a navagraha pradakshan and turns to meet Karpagam, whom she has called. She tells Karpagam about Adi's anger. She adds that after all, Karpagam is her son-in-law's first wife. Karpagam is taken aback that she knows this fact. They both turn to find Anjali in their midst. She rushes away.

Suresh's sister in law comes home, and his second wife Sundari tells her all about the poison episode. She warns Suresh that if he doesn't forget Aarti and settle down with Sundari, he will have to answer to her.

Next scene, Adi comes rushing to Abhi's place, waving a pistol. Big scene. They manage to lock Abhi in a room and try to calm down Adi, but he keeps yelling and threatening to kill all. Finally he yells at Abhi. I can't accept that you have overtaken me! I know everything! He finally says, I know you are my father's daughter!

SELVI
Pasupathi is arrested by Clouseau on a complaint from Amar. He is given the usual treatment. They put him the same cell as GJ, and Velu is dispatched to overhear the conversation. The idiot stands stark in front of the bars, clearly visible. Naturally, they put up a schtick saying starting with "What is your name?". Clouseau is frustrated.

Amar goes to meet Chellapillai (not Chinadurai). Wants to meet Pandian. Chellapillai says don't try any tricks, I'll call you with time and place.

PENN
Ranga returns. The ceremony is taking place. Her father urges her to wipe off her bindi, and participate. She refuses. The children do so also. She says no. THen they say Deepa should be sent out (usual petition). She refuses.

Later Deepa says to Ranga that she will leave her house, because she has her own agenda. Manohar will die in a couple of days (no, she's not going to kill him, he's going to die on his own). Then, Ravindran and Akash. She doesn't want all the trouble that follows to impact Ranga. Ranga says no, I have to protect...
Whom do you have to protect, asks Deepa, curious. Why, you, says Ranga.

Sivadhanu comes to meet Deepa. She tells him something significant needs to happen to Manohar, so that Ravindran and Akash either visit or call, whereupon they can begin tracking them. An auto stops, and the passenger sees them talking (in the middle of the street, what excellent conspirators!). It is Dr. Vaikunth, Manohar's father.

AFterwards, Sivadhanu notices that Dr. Vaikunth, though he has not said anything, is oddly different. The phone rings in Manohar's house. Sivadhanu moves to answer. Vaikunth says don't answer. Then he answers it himself. No answer from the other side, upon hearing his voice. He says that's curious. THen Sivadhanu goes to his room, picks up his cell phone, and talks to Deepa, warning her that he thinks Vaikunth is on to them. She says that's impossible, he would have confronted Sivadhanu immediately if that were so. She says she's coming that evening, to frighten Manohar once more. When he comes out of the room, Dr. Vaikunth is there. He asks what he was doing in his room at this time, and whom was he talking to. Sivadhanu denies everything. Later Vaikunth says he is expecting a visitor.

Back at Ranga's (new) home, her father urgers her to return to their home. She says no. Then, he says, we'll all move in here. We can't watch idly your giving away your fortune to a stranger.

Sep 21

KOLANGAL
Adi is in shock after Abhi's visit. Minister comes to see him, and is surprised at his dazed condition. Adi says Abhi has a joint agreement with all 10 flat owners. If only they could get the original of that agreement, things would be fine. He calls Ganga over, and promises her the land he showed her if she steals the paper and brings it to him. She readily agrees.

At her home, Ganga returns to find her father in a rage at her collecting rent directly from the garage owner (renter). She tells him to go fly a kite. When he raises his hand to hit her, she says those days are long gone, and he would be well-advised to mind his manners.

Abhi, who was previously totally convinced of Tolkappian's guilt, is now equally convinced of his innocence. She tells Rajamani, who comes to protest at her going to Adi's office, that this is how she is going to deal with the matter, and while she can assure RM that no harm will come to her interests, she cannot allow RM to dictate policy. In plain Tamil, buzz off.

This gives Rajamani Madam the vapors, and in short order she is propped up against the pillows (hard to tell which is which), with the doctor remarking that the blood pressure is making some capricious moves. Ranga the Faithful is by her side. She asks RM about any family, and why she herself decided not to marry. RM says she has only one sister, who married an abusive man. Their son is now in Singapore, and she is close to him. She introduces him to Ganga over the phone, and looks to see if something might spark.

Ramachandran tries to tell Abhi that Ranga was plotting with Tolkappian to sell the remaining 7 flats.

Abhi's family arguments continue as usual, Aarti's usual petulance and Anu's righteous indignation.

SELVI
Pandian persuades the doctor to treat his daughter by making him an offer he cannot refuse (pulls out his knife when the doctor says, this is a suicide case, go to the police). Later he apologizes and insists on paying the doctor, saying he does not accept charity. For all the trouble, his daughter's first act on recovering 'conscious' is to tell her father she no longer likes him. Pandian's face is a fascinating study.

GJ makes a sloshy account to Tamarai of how the cops keep beating him up at will. Clouseau has threatened shock treatment (how casually these things are shown and accepted in the serial is an index of society's attitudes, I suppose). She says she will be with him.

Amar threatens James and extracts a phone number to reach Pandian's associate, Chinnadorai.

PENN
Poongadi's mother arranges a 'first night'. Kailash wants to use the occasion to wring her neck. She promises to go away after six months. Until then, Kailash tells her, she must sleep on the ground and not on the bed. She agrees.

Ranga's flashback continues. Her sister's husband starts drinking even more and dies. She refuses to throw off her 'taali'. How could she when Badri was still alive? Badri came back and started KFP. She made Kala and Uma partners despite Badri's warnings. The venture took off, and the rest, as they say, is history. Bharani and his siblings consider her their mother, in fact, they don't know any different (surmise). After she finishes, Deepa declares that she must unite with Badri. Not until Swati's wedding, says Ranganayagi.

Last scene, Ranga is out of town. Bharani's dad's death anniversary ceremonies are taking place.

KOLANGAL
Missed it. Can someone update please?

SELVI

James runs for his life. He is behind some bushes, hiding, when a hidden hand taps him. He turns in fear, and finds it is Amar. Amar drags him to an upstairs apartment and locks him in.
Selvi is talking with Dileepan about plans to open a small mess. Dileepan asks if he can join as a partner. She says no, do your own thing. He is now resoved to stay on in India and 'win'. She later says Pasupathi is causing problems for Malar. He says don't worry, I'll handle it.

Dileepan goes to see Pasupathi, gives him a punch in the stomach to make him realize who's boss, and then lectures him on non-violent resolution of problems. Asks him to stay away from malar and Amar. Pasupathi reluctantly agrees.

Praba discovers that Click-Click is no longer at home. Watchman shoves him aside when he tries to ask questions. He goes to Selvi, who takes him straight to Clouseau. He tells Clouseau that he got a call from Click-click saying she was being held against her will by her father, but before she could say anything further, the phone had gone dead. Clouseau very intelligently tries the same number, then announces there is no signal. Elementary, my dear Velu. Tells Praba to tell him as soon as she calls next.

Meanwhile, the attendant discovers that Click-click is unconscious. Pandian brushes aside all advice of caution (the entire police is looking for him) and carries her in his arms to a doctor's residence. The doctor is called, Dr. Praba (literally).

PENN
Ranga finishes her story. Kailash and Deepa finish hearing it. Deepa asks for a photo of Ranga's child, but Ranga and Kailash somehow mazhuppify. Kailash says he is'in 'mood-out'  and refuses to take Deepa home.

Poongadi and Kasi come to Ranga's home, to take Kailash home, she says. Kailash is aghast, as she goes on about their secret wedding. Deepa is watching his reaction, and Poongadi's confidence. Finally Ranga asks him to go home with her. At home (a new house) he shows his displeasure, but he seems stuck.

Deepa is alone in Ranga's house. Ranga's family comes to demand where Ranga is. She refuses to tell them.

Sep 19

KOLANGAL

Abhi argues with the three landowners, asking them to abide by their agreement. They refuse. She then says, I know this is something you are being instigated to do. She says, if this your attitude, then I'll also take a different approach, and have rowdies take care of this. They blanch, and ask her if this how a lady should talk. She says if you guys were gentlemen, I would be a lady, but since you are playing fast and loose with your agreements, I think I should do the same. They head straight to Adi, and say to him that Abhi has threatened them. Adi says, don't worry, I'll take care of it. He doesn't realize Abhi is waiting outside his office, hearing their conversation. When the trio come out, she lets them know she is on to who is behind them, and says, don't worry, I'll deal with him directly. She then marches into Adi's office, grabs his shirt, and pushes him aside, and sits on his chair. She says, since I'm spending most of my day dealing with problems created by you anyway, why not I as well sit here instead of my office?

SELVI
Pandian orders the execution of James. One of his men informs James, who then goes to Selvi and says his days are numbered, would she please look after his family when he is gone. He later goes to meet the associate who tipped him off, but Pandian's men spot him, and chase him.

KOLANGAL
Rajesh and Guru stagger to a phone booth, where Guru, with the Rajesh in extremis twitching, manages to reach Aarti and inform her of Rajesh's suicide attempt. She interrupts a regularly scheduled quarrel with her sister in law Anu to rush the hospital, where Rajesh and Guru are scheduled to reach. Meanwhile, Guru, after making the phone call, is frothing at the mouth (maybe emulating the director), and slowly it dawns on them both that they might have drunk each other's sarakku, Guru imbibing the poison and Rajesh the soma. They reach the hospital, where they give the usual, "can't say anything for the moment but let us hope for the best" assurances.  The muslim shopkeeper who has accompanied them has meawhile  called the cops, suspecting that some foulplay is afoot. Chennai's finest arrive shortly, an inspector with three constables in tow. As per standard procedure, the inspector starts laying about Rajesh, accusing him of attempting to murder Guru. Guru's parents come, and the mother also points to Rajesh, and also that he is wearing Guru's ring (why, is not clear). Finally, Aarti reaches, and persuades the inspector not to drag her 'husband' to the police station. Inspector leaves, the three cops remain to guard Rajesh.

Abhi takes a strong line, refutes Ganga when she supports Rajamani madam that the 7 flats be sold at a loss. She says people are accusing Tolkappian, but she aims to get to the bottom of it all.

SELVI
The funeral takes place. GJ finally breaks into tears. Pandian has sent someone as a funeral attendant who whispers to GJ that any mention of Pandian will bring retribution. When Clouseau later asks GJ why he kidnapped Andavan, GJ says he did not. Clouseau applauds his strength of mind.

Selvi welcomes Dileepan back. He has been released for lack of evidence, case dropped. He says he will go back to Sri Lanka (talk of illegal immigration in America, here is a whole serial based on nothing but), but everyone, Niranjan, Tamarai's father, etc., say he should stay and win here. Selvi says don't compel him.

Last scene, the figure in black, who killed Karthan, now descends into the underbridge where Karthan was hidden.

PENN
Ranga gets married to brother in law. She is most apprehensive about her status, and the signs are ominous, as he enters the wedding bed with not the customary milk, but a bottle of something else, and proceeds to drink. The three kids are sleeping in the bed. He gets them to sleep on a paai on the floor, which he spreads first, and then clears the bed. As he comes close to Ranga, she pulls out a long knife which says whe will not hesitate to use if he comes near. He laughs, saying she need have no fear on that score, I only wanted you as a mother to my children, for which deep thanks. He then explains that he put the children on the floor because he always sleeps next to them, and that's where he intends to sleep, the bed is all hers. Ranga is deeply moved and mollified.

Badri is back. Kala tells Ranga to tell him their child is dead. She does so. But she pours out her woes to him, as he listens silently.

KOLANGAL
Abhi takes mother to see the plot and her dreams for the building. Mother totally floored (no pun intended). Mother says she is sad Abhi is not married. Says to Abhi, is there any chance you and Bhaskar...Abhi says don't even think about it.

Suresh and sidekick are in some shed, pouring out a glass of poison and a glass of alcohol. Both are quite drunk already. Suresh's idea is to take the poison and call Aarti. But his drunken friend takes down the number wrong, and when Suresh drinks the poison, there is no Aarti on the line to hear about it. His friend tries to take him to the clinic, where he has arranged to have his stomach pumped.

SELVI
Selvi and Tamarai's father come to see GJ's dad's body. Tamarai refuses to let her in, though she lets in Pooja, who has also come with them. Finally Selvi gives up and heads out, when Niranjan comes along and says he will see who stops her. GJ has just been brought by the police, and does a good job of portraying a stunned man. Niranjan shouts at Tamarai's family, and tells the cop, loudly, I think there is some foulplay here, which is why they don't want my sister to see the body. I am going to make a formal complaint. At this, there are worries and whispers, and finally, Selvi and Tamarai's dad are able to see the body.

At Malar's place, Malar's mom and her youngest daughter come to fetch Malar to take her to the GJ place, but Amar will not have any of it. He says he will abandon Malar if she goes. That is, of course, the ultimate threat, and the mother relents.

PENN
More pap. Terrible acting as well. Anyway, Kala raises the child. IN the meantime, her brother in law is getting drunk every day. Her sister is carrying her third child, Swati. The ages of the children don't square up, but that's the least of our problems with this worthless serial. Looks like Ranga's child is younger than Bharani, but older than both Karthik and Swati. Yet, the child is less than two when Kala brings him over to show Ranga. Ranga refuses to give him up. Kala reminds her that her father will kill the child if he sees him. Which he does but is too stupid to put two and two together, and concluding it is Kala's love-child, satisfies himself with some cheap remarks about Kala.

In the meantime, her sister, after delivering Swati, dies. But not before giving a longish speech about how she was unable to protect Ranga from their father, and requesting that Ranga be a mother to her children. Ranga promises. But the unstated other half of the request is fulfilled soon. Mohan, her brother in law, decides to leave the house., taking the children with him. He says he has decided to remarry. Ranga's father says in that case, why not marry Ranga? Ranga is shocked, shocked, but sees that if she does not, she will lose the children, and cannot keep her promise to her sister. Ergo, kottumelam.

Yuck.

Sep 14

KOLANGAL
Ganga talks to Tolkappian and tells him about the partners' visit to Rajamani madam. He suggests selling off the rest of the flats (even if at a small loss) and getting out of the troublesome deal. Ramachandran is listening from behind the pillars in the unfinished building.

Abhi tells her mother about her plan to build a home. The maistry comes home to get some instructions. He seems to hold Abhi in much esteem, and says that for her, nothing but the best quality materials, and each brick individually selected, etc.

Arti goes over to Suresh and tells him that Maddy's men are out looking for him to retaliate. He tries to get her to stay, but she says she never wants to see him again, and it is of no interest to her whether he lives or dies.

SELVI
Tamarai'skids discover that their grandfather (GJ's dad) who has just returned from the hospital, has died suddenly. Everyone assembles at her house, including Ranjani and her husband. GJ, in jail, hears about it, and does a great soliloquy of how tears don't come to him, and he is afraid of going to see his father, because people will say the son is umoved.
Pooja hears of it, and rushes to Tamarai's place.

PENN
Ranga's story continues. She persuades the midwife not to kill the baby, but permit it to live and take it to an ashram instead. Later she talks to Kala, when she comes to commiserate with her about the baby's killing. When she tells Kala the baby is alive, Kala says, let me raise him, I'll keep him as a memory of Badri (is this twisted or what?) Bad acting, combined with terrible storytelling. Unconvincing.

KOLANGAL
Rajamani madam's old partners come to her house, to commisserate at her difficulties with various projects. They suggest that Adi would have been a better bet, and after all, that's where they had parted company with her. Ganga, who is there, also supports them. She seems to waver. Coming out, they call Adi to report that they have infused an element of doubt in her mind.

Bhaskar's mother comes to the office and sweet talks Abhi, who is not moved, although she promises to do something to help with Bhaskar's sister's wedding. Bhaskar listens, fascinated. Later, she serves him lunch on a vazhai ilai on the conference table, where mother and son scheme to get Abhi to foot the bill for Vidya's wedding.

Rajendra, Karpagam's brother, arrives back from Palani. Bhaskar's mother shows up to tell Karpagam that Abhi has agreed to meet all the expenses of her daughter's wedding. K is doubtful, but keeps quiet.

SELVI
Pasupathi reports back to Pooja that Amar taunted him, but he was unable to do anything, because he wants to go straight. She says in that case, go your own way, and never meet me again. He stops her. What do I need to do? he asks. She says, I have to be widowed, and then I have to accept you.

Pasupathi goes to Amar's house, and despite malar's denials, sees that Amar is there. He chases Amar and twists his arm. There is a breaking sound, but curiously, in the next few minutes, Rombatoomuch distracts P as Amar escapes, having full use of his arms. Pasupathi hunts for him without success. RTM calls Selvi with an SOS.

Clouseau interrogates the seth, who tells him that Andavarilingam was known to him, and he lent money to Tamarai at an exorbitant interest rate for GJ's release, upon Andavarlingam's urging. He changed his mind after A disappeared, and GJ showed up at his place to warn him to mend his ways, otherwise he too might disappear. Clouseau lets him go, and asks Velu to keep an eye on him (how many eyes does Velu have?)

PENN
Three months later, Ranga is confessing to Kala that she is pregnant, and no word from Badri. Kala says she tried to contact Badri in Dubai, but was unable to reach him. A point of interest. If Badri saw her only once after the morning of the wedding, and that was when he stopped by to say goodbye, saying she had not at all met him, when did all this happen? Never mind.

Father comes to know of this, she will not reveal who is the father. Sister intervenes. Sister Anandi is pregnant, father tries to strangle Ranga in fury, but sister comes between them, and is thrown to the ground, losing her child. She is desolate. Ranga cries because her sister has lost her baby owing to her problems. Sister and brother-in-law ask why she won't tell the name of the father. She says he has betrayed her after making promises, and she would like to forget him.

When the time comes for delivery, her father takes her to his home in the village, and engages a midwife. He bribes the midwife to kill the baby as soon as it is born, and tell Ranga it was dead already. The midwife is the familiar 'villi' from various other Tamil shows.

KOLANGAL
Ganga continues with her story, how her father ignored and belittled her, keeping her away from home, at a boarding school. A male schoolteacher misbehaves with her, and she slaps him. Instead of getting angry with the teacher, her father gets angry with her. She says she has always been independent, she now loves Tolkappian, but she wants to do so without losing her independence. How this is possible is in his hands.

Bhaskar's mother makes tall claims to her relative, saying Abhi has agreed to spare no expense to perform her daughter's marriage. Bhaskar hears this, and asks her when Abhi mades any such promise. His mother says don't worry, I know how to get all this out of her.

SELVI
GJ banters witht the other kaidi in his cell. Tamarai, Rombatoomuch and Tamarai's brother come to the station. As they are talking with GJ, Amar arrives, fuming, insisting to see GJ right away. Velu tries to stop him, but Clouseau says, let him go, and watch the drama. He goes and accuses GJ of cheating him (no talk of 'where have you kept my father', by the way). Tamarai protests. Amar says she doesn't know what kind of a man he is. A scuffle erupts between Tamarai's brother and Amar. They are all asked to leave by Clouseau. Tamarai promises GJ that she believes him. GJ is silent throughout. Clouseau expresses his wonderment at his composure.

At Niranjan's home, Ceylon Mani starts hearing gurgling water again (Sun TV's indication of dizziness) and faints. Niranjan comes, picks her up and tries to rush her to hospital.

Amar runs into Pasupathi, who has been searching for honest work without any success (people are willing to hire him for bad things, but not for a regular job). Jaw-to-Jaw confrontation, but no fighting.

Ranga continues...

Badri had to leave for Dubai shortly, so he and I got secretly married at the registrar's office (the board says Register), witnesses Kasi and Kala. As soon as we returned to my mother's place, Badri left to arrange for a rental place for us, and also to check on his Dubai visa. While he and Kasi were away, my father sent his men (the men ask for Badri, showing they know about him, yet no one suspects anything between him and Ranga). They grabbed me and took me back to my father's place. Father did not know of the marriage. There, my brother in law was asking my father to set up a separate home for himself and his family.Sister was crying, and trying to please Bharani, the kid who was in her arms. FAther talked insultingly to him, and said his daughter was not going to any hovel. Meanwhile, Kasi came in and asked me to come out to meet some friends. It was Kala and Badri. Badri was leaving tomorrow to Dubai. He promised to come back in two years with plenty of money, so he could get my father's approval. I said I was very fearful, what if he tried to arrange a match for me? In that case, said Badri, make a phone call to me, and I'll come and get you.

Badri is shown leaving...

KOLANGAL
Ganga meets with Tolkappian and apologizes. He downplays it, saying no offense taken. Then she reveals how her father saw her as a bad omen, and in fact had her given away for a year according to some astrologer's advice.

Major dust-up in Tirvengadam's house. He is drinking, and gets into a grudge fight with his daughter in law, who has just returned from work. Finally, he gets really nasty and accuses her of getting pregnant before marriage, whereupon his wife throws him out of the house.

At Abhi's house, another argument, with Anjali shouting at Mano, and at Suresh, whereupon Aarati, for whom argument is a probably a welcome substitute, jumps right in with Anjali and a shouting match commences.

SELVI
GJ in denial. Selvi meets him. He denies that it is his voice, claims he is being framed.
Amar is shocked by GJ's game. Promises to get even.
Pandian's daughter gets a call from Praba. She tells him her father is holding her somewhere against her will. Pandian steps in and breaks the phone.

PENN
Story by Ranga continues...
Says after Badri told her that there was no possibility for their union to work, she confides in Kasi. Kasi expresses apprehensions that Badri is betrothed (in a way) to Kala. But, he says he will try. He sends an anonymous note to Kala's mother, purporting to be from Kala, saying that she has found another person to love. Mother shows it to Badri, who now reconciles himself to this fate, and tells Ranga he too loves her. Asks her to be ready to elope.

Kala is upset, but realizes she is sacrificing Badri for her best friend, and wishes them well.

KOLANGAL
Mano, with Suresh and his buddy, go over to Maddy's house, a mansion where he teaches dance. They call him out. They tell him to stay away from Anjali. When he asks who they are, they tell him they are her relatives. Suresh says he is her elder brother (a tortuous construction, but so what). When Maddy asks them to buzz off, words follow, and they beat him up, severely. His students come out hearing commotion, and in the finest Indian tradition, stand by watching. Maddy is badly injured. Toward the end of this blow-fest, Anjali drives up,  rushes to Maddy's aid, dispersing the trio. She asks Maddy why he didn't fight back. He says lamely that it was because they claimed they were her relatives.

Anjali escorts him to his room (maybe the mansion was not his). There he declares his feelings for her. She too is troubled by her feelings for him.

Later Anjali comes over to Mano's house, demands to see him. He enters shortly after her, and she yells at him, telling Anu in the process what has happened.

At Ganga's house, Ganga comes home and scolds her father for yelling at Tolkappian. Ramachandran talks ill of her relations with Tolkappi8an, whereupon, as previously threatened, she pulls out her slippler and thrashes him.  He leaves in a huff, telling his wife she is going to pay for this.

SELVI
The commissioner takes steps to rescind the anticipatory bail, by talking to the judge. Clouseau salutes the judge smartly and obtains the new warrant for GJ's arrest. Then he goes to the GJ household and takes GJ into custody. Tamarai's bluster is blunted by the new warrant, and GJ's father collapses into a chair, fainting briefly.

Clouseau applies the famous Madras Police 'mariyadai' to GJ. But GJ has only one word for them, 'teriyaadu', i.e., don't know. He denies knowing Pandian, Pasupathi, anything else.

Selvi comes to the commisioner's office to plead that Dileepan be released, now that GJ has been apprehended. Commisioner is sympathetic, and assures her that steps will be taken quickly. Clouseau appears. Says GJ is mentally strong and cannot be broken. Meanwhile, Amar shows up at the Commissioner's office protesting GJ's arrest. Finally, the Commissioner plays GJ's tape for Amar. Amar is thoroughly shaken. Instead of shouting at us, thank this lady, it is because of her we were able to trace the real kidnapper, says the Commissioner. But Amar leaves without even looking at Selvi.

PENN
Ranga has moved into the house of her childhood. Kailash tells her of Poongadi's scheme, and says his father now believes her, and she has moved into the flat. He says he has betrayed Deepa (what that means is your guess). Ranga launches into a flashback, saying that things we imagine are not always so. She says she grew up under an authoritarian father, who had a terrible temper. Her elder sister would often take the blame for her errors so as to save her a beating. At school, her best friends were Kala and Uma. Uma went to do college back in Tiruchi, and Kala and she remained classmates in college. Badri was Kala's cousin, and was raised by Kala's mother. In due course it was arranged by his parents and Kala's mother that they would marry. However, Ranga fell in love with Badri, but when she  expressed her feelings, he said there could be no approach between their relative statuses. She was downcast.

Kailash listens with great surprise and interest.

KOLANGAL
Satish and mother bring Tiruvengadam back home. He disparages the house, the surroundings, even the friendly landlord who stops by to ask if they need anything done to the house. Yes, tear it down, says Tiruvengdam, to his wife's embarrassment.

Mano heads to Suresh to seek his help in the Maddy affair. Suresh says let us go and beat him up. They head out.

Ganga's father goes to Abhi Constructions, and in the middle of the office, screams at Tolkappian for having given his daughter ideas about selling his house. He reveals all kinds of things, including the fact that Tolkappian had asked for Ganga's hand. Abhi is listening with interest, Bhaskar with a pleased amusement.

Later, Abhi meets Tolkappian at the beach, and tells him she is hurt that he rejected her sister Anandi because he was in love with Ganga. She says he has gone for exterior beauty, but Anandi is far more beautiful internally. She is most hurt because he never told her, as his best fried, what was on hismind. After calling him here to talk with him, she refuses to listen to anything he has to say. He begins by saying that that was not the reason he said he didn't wish to marry Anandi, but she will not hear him, and walks away.

SELVI
Nagendra again insinuates that GJ knows all about the kidnapping. Amar refuses to believe him. Later, at the hospital, Amar refuses to take Karthalingam's body, saying he has to wait for his father be found so that he can view the body and dispose of it with full rites. GJ is with him throughout.

Nagendra reports to Selvi, saying her warning GJ has led him to get pre-bail. She asks if they cannot get the bail revoked. The Chennai Clouseau  says that's what he is working on. He asks her to remain vigilant for her safety.

Pandian talks to his daughter, who is refusing food. She says she doesn't like him any more. He ismoved (nice job). Later, he calls GJ on an important matter. GJ says, now that you have killed Karthan, is Andavan budging. That's the whole ponit, says Pandian, it wasn't us that killed Karthan. GJ is shocked. Then who? he asks. Next scene, Yogeswaran (Selvi's dad) is shown blowing on some gold.

PENN
Scene continues at Ranga's place. Dad knocks the flowers from kasi's hand. Kasi protests, saying Ranga is like a sister to him. Why are they, her real family members, treating her so badly, and clawing at her for her wealth. Where is it going? Upon this, grandfather begins beating Kasi, who calmly takes it. He screams at Ranga saying that next week is the anniversary of her husband's death. After that, she should not wear flowers, colorful sarees, have a bindi, etc.

Ranga is sitting on the floor in her room, crying. Deepa sees her and calls Badri. She weeps and asks Badri should should she abandon flowers and bindi and colorful sarees. Is her husband dead? Badri sends Deepa away and sits down to consoler her. Their conversation could be those of two good friends, but as he is wiping away her tears and pattin gher head, her daughter in law, who is spying on them through an opening in the window curtains, is aghast. She rushes to tell Bharani. At first Bharani doesn't believe her.

Next scene, Banarni and Kartik confront her, and say that she should not see Badri again. Because we are your sons, and you must listen to us. Ranga is outraged at the implications of this, and that she is being given any directives by two completely incompentent wastrels. She gets so disgusted that she walks out of the house. As she leaves and they follow her, they run into Deepa, who has come to give Ranga two tickets to Bangalore, and says these are for you and Badri. It turns out the tickets are on the date of her husband's death anniversary. The two boys draw the right conclusions, and Karthik tears up the tickets. Ranga walks straight out of the gates.

Kolangal
Satish is with Easwaran at the hospital. Doctor says nothing to worry about. Satish tries to persuade Easwaran to stay and greet his father when he awakes. Easwaran tries to resist. Meanwhile Satish's mother arrives. In her hurry she does not see Easwaran, though Satish tries to introduce her. When Tirvengadam regains 'conscious', he is still full of swagger, blaming the inferiority of the drink rather than his own health. He is told that it was the friendly soul who saved him in Bangalore who once again was instrumental in bringing him to the hospital. When Satish goes out to bring Easwaran, his friend says Easwaran has left, pleading a prior appointment.

Anu tells Mano about Anjali's friend Maddy. Mano says he will deal with Maddy, without involving any family members.

Ganga approaches Tols for money for her sister. She needs 5 lakhs to go abroad. Tols says his situation is not amenable to making a loan. But, he suggests, why not pledge your houuse, which is so valuable. Ganga comes home with this suggestion. Father refuses flat, saying it was handed down to him by his father. Ganga threatens legal action.

SELVI
Clouseau sees many of Pandian's men, all hugging pillars. As he orders his men to catch them, before they can negotiate the narrow grid of cement, Pandian's boys have all jumped into the sea. Clousea thinks of jumping but decides to play it safe, bravely ordering his men to jump in. They of course come back empty handed. As all this is happening, Pandian, who is watching from a corner, hitches up his veshti one more notch (a little more would be leave no reason for the veshti at all) and runs up, chased from a distance by Clouseau. By the time Clouseau reaches the top, Pandian has vanished. Clouseau and co. reach his house and rough up the watchman, who keeps saying, dutifully, I don't know.

Pandian is holding a war council, trying to find out how the Karthan was killed by someone else?  He suspects his men have betrayed him. One of them speaks up, saying it could be that GJ has hired another hoodlum. One woman employee of his takes lunch to Click Click, the plates and water come flying out in rage. Unnavirutham.

Tamarai's new business is booming. GJ comes and is taken aback by the scale.

The only two cops in Chennai, Clouseau and Velu, are taken to the site of a dead body floating in a lake situated in a remote quarry (Selvi should now be renamed as National Geographic of India -- The Bleak Landscape Show). It is Karthalingam. By the way Clouseau holds his nose while getting close to the body, it might be narthalingam. Anyway, Amar is duly informed, and he arrives, along with his keeper, GJ. He breaks down seeing his Karthaling anne in this state.

PENN
Poongadi outdoes herself. Having told everyone that Kailash married her at the temple in Tanjavur, she, her mother, friends, Kasi and a crowd are waiting to see what happens next. Kailash arrives. He tries to deny any such thing, but Poongadi has a cast iron case. Finally he says, swear on your mother. Poongadi has no qualms. She does so, whreupon Kasi believes her. Kailash is dumbstruck at this. She even has an answer to his question, when there is no opposition to our wedding, why would I want to marry you secretly, if I wanted to marry you at all? She says that's because you told me that Deepa had rejected you, and you wanted to do this as quickly as possible. Tellig others would mean setting a date, etc.

Big scene at Ranganayagi's house. Each clamoring for something. Seh is queit. Finally Kasi arrives to take her to the temple. She says, let's go. Father is upset that she talks to Kasi but not to them. He grabs the flowers that Kasi has brought and flings them on the floor.

KOLANGAL
Minister and Adi are sitting, discussing the proceeedings in the Prabu murder. Inspector arrives, says pukka case is being prepared against Abhi. Adi applauds.

Upendra tries to escape from ashram. Ashramites see him, and persuade him to go back to bed.

Satish visits father, who is getting drunker by the minute, until he starts vomiting blood. Satish and the hotel boys bring him down, and hail the first car that comes by. Wouldn't you know it, the car belongs to none other than Easwaran, who is also in it. He reluctantly permits Satish to put his father in the car to go to the hospital.

SELVI
Clouseau and Velu take GJ into custody, although he has acquired an anticipatory bail. it is not an arrest, but they take hin in for inquiry. He gives painfully consistent answers to repeated questions. Amar and Tamarai arrive at the station with rombatoomuch and Viswa. Amar argues with Clouseau to release GJ, saying it is Dileepan who is the kidnapper. Clouseau makes the point that the police force is not the hired retinue of Amar's family, to be set upon a task and called off at will. Once the complaint is filed, the investigation will take its own course. Finally he lets GJ go. Velu asks why. Clouseau essays into psychology. Essentially, he says he is giving GJ enough rope to hang himself.

Clouseau and co. now head for the waterfrontwhere Karthan was being kept. Asks men to fan out and grab everyone in sight. Under the structure, no one is there, but finally, Clouseau sees men standing, hugging the towers, blending with them.

Pandian rushes home, grabs his daughter and drags her out, with instructions to the gateman that he wants to know everyone who calls on the house, but none should be told of his whereabouts.

PENN
Kailash talks to the dean, who admits that a year and a half ago, several unsavory incidents happened at the college. He says Manohar completed his course, Ravindran did not. Easwaran, Ravindran's father, got a transfer to Calcutta, and took Ravindran with him. Jamuna's address is the only thing he will give Kailash. Kailash goes with the peon to collect it.

Meanwhile, Poongadi, who has been missing all night, comes back in an auto, claims to have just returned from Tanjavur, where she married Kaliash at a Mariamman temple. Proof -- here's my taali. Where's Kailash, asks Kailash's father. Says he went to tell Ranga.

Kailash is talking to Deepa, who finally says she loves him. She asks about Ravindran and Akash, and Kailash misleads her, saying he couldn't find out anything in Tanjavur, not even Jamuna's whereabouts. The house was sold, he says, by some relative of Jamuna who had power of attorney.

KOLANGAL
Usha is in a gift store with her son (who suddenly looks two years old). With her are Anu and Mano (when the hatchet was buried is not clear).  Anu insists on buying a gift for her nephew. Secretly dispatches Mano with her bangles to pawn to buy the gift. An expensive toy is bought and given to the kid, in the face of protests from Usha. Usha tells Anu about Anjali's admirer, who insists on visiting her. She is scared that the engagement to Kishore may be jeopardized by all this, but no one will listen to her. She says shelongs for her friendship with Abhi. Anu says Abhi is wonderful, and Usha should come home sometime. Usha agrees.

Once again her new colleagues pressure Abhi to drop Tols. She recalls all the pros and cons, how Tols was a tower of strength at all the crisis points. Also, the charges against him lately, and how he had not been forthcoming. She is still in a dilemma.

SELVI
After much quoting of the Gita by Clouseau as regards duty, Selvi hands over the tape. He says he will have GJ cool his heels, then settle Pandian's account. Tells Selvi too many women in our country are stopped by their traditional view of their husband (can do no wrong) and live miserable lives tolerating all kinds of bad things by men. She should be an example to them all.

Pandian's flunky goes to kill Karthan, who has by now slipped his bonds and escaped. He crawls on the sand, climbs over boulders, while the flunky reports this to Pandian, who now heads off to do the deed himself. Finally, Karthan reaches a railway track and runs along it. Waiting for him is a figure in black kurta-pyjama, Karthan runs right into a knife the figure is holding. The face is shown -- with a dark black beard and moustache, and with sunglases, asking Karthan. Do you remember what you did? Then  there is a flashback of all the bad stuff that happened with the burning of Selvi's family jewelry store in Sri Lanka. The guy is Selvi's father, made young no doubt by yogic penances during these months of absence.

PENN
No serial drags more. They take so much time to say so little. Anyway, Kailash throws out Karthik from Ranga's room, where the boy is yelling at Ranga. Kailash tells Ranga Deepa is not to be dissuaded from her plan. Ranga blabbers on about how she is torn between Akash the crook and Akash the son.

Poongadi has left a note for her mother saying she is marrying a man of his dreams, and not to look for her. Mother immediately begins a 100 yard sprint (to where, is not clear -- to Kasi's house, most likely).

Mohini reaches Solai's home as he is dreaming about her. She says, make me MD, and then watch -- as she says this, she takes his hand in hers, giving him all kinds of hopes.

Kailas arrives in Tanjavur at the college, looking for Ravindran (didn't they say Ravindran was in Calcutta? But who's counting?).

Yuck!

KOLANGAL
Easwaran comes to see Anu at her office. She is surprised and overjoyed. He assures her that her mother Kanchana loves her still, though she puts on an outward show of anger. He advises her to be kind to Karpagam, and is happy to discover that she has such a mature attitude.

Abhi says she cannot just dismiss Tols. Says to the group, let us go and talk to him. They head off to Tolkappian's house. As usual, no use of cell phone to ask if he is home, tell him they are coming, etc. When Ganga sees them leave, she informs Adi, who assures her things are under control, he'll handle it.

Next thing, Mari and gang, in Adi's pay, are hanging about outside Tolkappian's front gate. Mari's friends don't know why, but Mari just tells them to hang on. Abhi's car pulls in, and Abhi sees them as Bhaskar points them out. Abhi enters the gate and calls out for Tolkappian. He comes out. She asks if he has been in touch with Mari after she had asked him to dismiss him and his group. He replies, innocently, that he too had been looking for them without success, for the description of the goondas who had threatened the three homeowners matched them. This appears totally false to Abhi, who has just seen them outside Tolkappian's gate. She turns on her heels and leaves, ignoring his request to stay.

SELVI
GJ meets Pandian, and asks if Andavan has signed. No amount of threat will make him sign, says Pandian. Then do something to scare him, says GJ. Cut off his left hand, we need only the right for signature. Pandian points out the practical problems that would follow (nifty!). GJ says in that case, kill Karthan.

Pasupathi comes to meet Pandian, who gives him a large knife and orders him to kill Karthan. Pasupathi suggests having James do it, but Pandian says no, you must. After Pandian leaves, Pasupathi calls another flunky and gives him the knife, and asks him to tell Pandian sorry on his (Pasupathi's) behalf. Pandian is angry to learn this, but asks the fellow to do the job instead, which the fellow departs to do immediately after seeking Pandian's blessings(!).

Pasupathi and Pooja come to see Selvi. Pasupathi says karthan must be dead by now. I refused to do it because I want to go straight, but I want you to know that Andavan's life is not much longer. Selvi has to come to a decision what to do. She silences Pooja who says, let them die. Let them both.

Clouseau is sitting in Selvi's courtyard. She refuses to tell him anything, having called him. Finally, Niranjan walks in and says she knows who kidnapped Andavan. She finally tells him it was GJ. He says, will Pasupathi talk? She says no, don't involve him. He is trying to straighten out his life. He says, how about James. No. I promised to protect him. Then, he says, we can't do anything without evidence (clearly showing he is only acting as a policeman). She says, no, I have another kind of evidence.

PENN
Ranga operation successful. Comes home. Sees family assembled,  realizes what they are all after, takes side door, ignoring athe aarati Chitra has prepared. Locks herself in the pooja room.

Deepa and Kailash meet. Deepa says she still has unfinished business, asks Kailash to help him, upon which she will consider whether to love him (Arabian nights revisited). Asks Kailash to go to Tanjore and find Ravindran. He says he will go. Poongadi overhears this conversation, decides she must act before Kailash goes to Tanjavur.

They really drag things out in PENN. Terrible direction.

KOLANGAL
Adi comes home and recounts what happened at the supplier's to Kanchana. She says, curtly, each one should enjoy the life they have chosen. Then her mind wanders back to the day Anu's mother, the servant lady, died, leaving behind the baby girl whose father was Kanchana's brother. On that day, she tells young Adi that he should consider her his own sister.

Meeting at Abhi Constructions. Abhi has just arrived, and Rajamani madam is summarizing the decision so far. Says she is out of funds, best way would be to take the company public. For that, the entire management should be united, and they have decided that Tols will have no place in the new scheme. Abhi is silent. Tols enters, having been asked to come by Rajamani madam. She asks Abhi to convey the decision to Tols. Images of the whole company being built, and Tols' part in it, zip through Abhi's mind, she breaks into tears and leaves the room without a word. Rajamani explains to Tols that they have decided to ask him to leave. Tols, looking fresher and more sprightly than he has for a while, cuts her short. Who are you? he asks her, stopping her dead in her tracks. You came in yesterday. Do you know how the company was built? And that guy, he says, pointing to Bhaskar. Who looked at Abhi's salary and decided this would be a good investment to marry. And that gentleman, he says, looking at Viswanathan, who ran away abroad, afraid to run things. Hear me clearly. I am going NOWHERE. If others have a problem with this, they can leave.

SELVI
Rombatoomuch decides on a new plan to tackle Pasupathi -- let's call Selvi, she says, and does so, appealing to Selvi's sense of duty. She tells all about the broken living room, etc. Later, Pasupathi comes to Selvi to talk about taking Pooja home with him. No need, says Selvi. I have inquired about the hostel, and she is safe there. In fact, what happened to her recently did because she left the confines of the hostel. Before you try to take on responsibilities, try to live like a decent, respectable man, she says. He leaves.

Chennai's Clouseau is talking to Amar trying to get more background. Amar lets drop that until Andavan was kidnapped, GJ was ill-disposed to Andavan. As he says it, a light goes off in his own head. He also reveals that GJ was in jail for the charge of murdering Malar's first husband.

PENN
Ranga is having surgery this morning. Family is assembled outside, each with his own agenda.

Kala is thinking about Akash, and Poongadi comes in. Gives some prasadam from the temple; her mother has performed an archanai for Ranga's recovery. She asks Poongadi's opinion about an imaginary story. Two women decide to raise a boy. The boy does harm to an innocent girl. That girl, not knowing their relationship with the two women, now seeks their help to take revenge upon the boy. What should the women do? Kill the bastard, is Poongadi's clear verdict. Then Kala says, even if it is like Akash, my son? Poongadi's simple mind is confused. She doesn't know if she has gone too far. What are you talking about Akash? Kala says it is only an example. Poongadi recommends, wisely, that she read less of these stories in the magazine (or, she might have added, see less Sun TV).

Of all the people outside, Ranga wants to see Badri and Kala. Badri goes in first. Deepa is still there. Ranga sends her away. Then Badri, who is all madam this and madam that, is told by Ranga, now that everyone has gone...He addresses her as nee, and the relationship between them, hinted earlier, becomes clear. He has brought her some kumkum from the temple, which he applies on her forehead. She clings to him, but he gives some upadesam from the Geeta and leaves, saying she will be ok. Then Kala comes in, with a picture of Akash. Ranga doesn't even want to see it. She tells Kala that if something happens to her, she must support Deepa. Kala reminds her that their first duty is by their son.
