KOLANGAL
Rajesh writes a love letter to Aarti and tries to deliver it by hand as she is waiting at the bus stop. He pesters her to take it, and she shows her irritation. Meanwhile, a passing eve-teasing squad of female cops is in the area, and seeing this, stops to take measures against Rajesh. He runs, but they catch her and start caning him and getting ready to take him to the police station. Aarti comes rushing behind, and finally, tells them she is her husband. This is taken by Rajesh as a vindication of his love. Some folks will clutch at anything.

Anandi visits Tolkappian at the building site, and tells him that his friendship with Abhi is pristine, and should not be compromised at any cost. He listens.

Adi comes to visit his supplier, where Anu works as a secretary. The supplier rudely calls her on the phone and asks her to get some coffee. She does, and as she sees Adi and he sees her, both are shocked. Naturally, she drops the coffee cup on his lap, and the employer berates her. Adi walks away.

SELVI
GJ is brought to the police station (you would think there are only two cops in all of Madras, Nagendra and his side-kick Velu, they are at every crime). His 10 lakh withdrawal has raised questions. He has claimed someone stole it from him. Nagendra makes him sit and asks why, when the money was stolen three days back, did he not report the theft of such a huge amount. He mumbles something about domestic troubles. Nagendra says, how are Andavan and Karthan. GJ says they should be fine, and then blurts out, they are fine. The Chennai Clouseau cocks his eye, indicating, how do you know they are well. GJ recovers,saying they must be well, as I am praying for their safety daily. Then suddenly, Nagendra points to the side, saying, do you know this man? GJ looks up and sees James. A silent message passes between them. GJ is shaken, but manages at the last minute, to say it wasn't him, and then, suddenly, he points to the auto driver saying, it was someone that looked like him. Nagendra dismisses GJ, and tells assistant velu to let go of James later, but retains the auto driver.

Pasupathi storms into Amar's place. Amar is not there, but his uncle and Malar are. The uncle tries to protest his entry, but Pasupathi goes on a rampage, destroying the entire living room. Rombatoomuch (thanks, Ammu) arrives shortly after, and laments the destruction of all these things, and how safe they would have been if they had at least been gifted to her. Amar is there soon, and she tells him all about the incident. Amar immediately suspects Pooja is behind all this, and heads out to settle accounts with her. This is completely at odds with his mood in recent episodes. He was a despondent guy, a broken son. Suddenly, Amar is back, saying that Pasupathi is nothing but a hired hoodlum.

Pooja asks Paspuathi if he has destroyed Amar. He says he will not trouble you again, I have struck fear into his family. She says that's no use. I want him hit. He will come back for me. Pasupathi asks here to move in with him, so he can protect her. She says that's a decision only Selvi can make. She is everything to me, mother, father... He sas he will talk to Selvi.

PENN
Akash is putting line on some girl at a restaurant. He steps out to take a phone call, when Deepa passes by. He does not see her. Soon after, as he completes his call, he sees Kailash. He banters with him, and goes in to continue his flirting with the girl. Kailash has Deepa with him. Deepa says they need to track Akash. Kailash says, why Akash, the miscreants are Manohar and Ravindran. She insists that Akash is the brains behind everything. (The whole conversation is asinine.) He tries to head her off elsewhere, but she insists on going in. Finally, he seats her outside, and asks her to cover her head, saying she would look nice. She is pleased. Akash emerges. Deepa doesn't see him. Akash is keen to see this girl with Kailash, but Kailash fends him off with some excuse.

Nagarajan, Senthil's father, comes to Mohini's office, to persuade her that he is ok with her getting back together with his son. She treats him with her usual rudeness. Muthukumar comes in and insults him some more. This time Nagarajan bristles and answers back. Later Mohini tells her dad about her plan to get back together with Senthil. After protesting, she tells him the single life is difficult for her, too many admirers (!). He says in that case, at least move out to a 'tani kudutthanam' asap.

Akash is taking leave of his mother. Says he didn't mean what he said when he threatened never to return to India again. He says he will be done in a few months, and if he can find a job, she should plan on joining him and their settling in America. She starts crying. When he asks why she has behaved so oddly his entire trip,  has someone told you something bad about me, she asks, are you a good person? He answers, after a quick silent gesture to himself (nicely done) that he has never done any harm to anyone, at least knowingly.

Aug 28

KOLANGAL
Abhi and Tolkappian have a heart-to-heart talk. Ganga is listening, unseen. Abhi says to Tols that he is no longer the open and friendly colleague and partner she once knew. He was right about this project running into trouble and his warning about purchasing land with buildings on it. But what now? Tolkappian asks if she believes he scared off the three homeowners. She says no she does not, but neither does she know what to make of all the other curious incidents in the office, the disappearance of the 3 lakhs, etc., for which he refuses to offer any explanations. Finally she says that she realizes her defeat. The company is in a mess, and he has proven that construction is a man's business, no woman can be successful in it.

Adi's sister, who is engaged to be married, is at home. Usha is also there. The sister's pal from Pondicherry arrives, thinking she is alone. Usha scolds him and asks hime to leave, saying he knows well that the girl is engaged to be married. Usha's parents arrive. The sister shouts and abuses Usha and her parents for Usha's interference.

SELVI
GJ reaches home, in a bad mood. Tamarai inquires what happened. He says it is all her friend's fault. His father pours out his disgust at his son, for playing off his two wives against each other thus.

Pasupathi goes to see Pooja, is told she has been beaten up. Turns out Amar has beaten her up while she was walking on the beach.

James goes to get a shave. The barber has recognizes him from the photo, and calls the cops. The cops arrive, and hold a gun to his head. Nagendra calls Selvi and asks if she knows someone called James.

KOLANGAL
Adi is talking to the three holdouts. Minister is by his side. He tells them how the whole construction industry has been spoiled by the influx of people like Abhi who want to make a fast buck at the expense of innocent landowners such as themselves. He replays what he thinks would have happened, and they are astounded that he has guessed the situation exactly (not knowing his man was in all the while). Finally, he says, it is your right not to sell. At the same time, I know you need the money too...Here's my suggestion. I'll buy a power of attorney from you for half the price you were going to receive. You can sell it at your own pace, and when you do, you can redeem the power of attorney. After a minor huddle, they all three think this is a grand idea. Later, after they are gone, Minister wonders what the plan is, what does the power of attorney get them? Adi is way ahead of him. I'm going to transfer it to Tols, he says. Minister says, but doesn't that require his signature? Ah, Ganga will do that job, declares Adi.

Ganga and Adi are at the loan office, where Tols has agreed to provide surety for Ganga's loan. The loan officer hands him an expensive stamp paper blank, and asks him to sign. He walks away, correctly smelling a rat. Outside, Ganga meets him and asks if her love for him does not extend to a signature. She slowly challenges his own believes of himself as a man who cares nothing for money or prestige, just for doing the right thing and having faith in people. He snatches the paper from Ganga, as she makes to tear it up, and hastily hands it back to her after signing it.

Next, Ganga hands over the paper to Adi, with slight misgivings. She asks Adi if Tols' trust will be betrayed and any harm will come to him. Adi reassures her it will not. Later, adi and Rekha take Ganga to a plot of land and says it belongs to Ganga, once Tols is persuaded to leave Abhi's company. She thinks it over, and a look of determination comes over her face. You will see just how ambitious I am, she say.

SELVI
On the run, James calls GJ on his cell phone. GJ is in the bathroom, and the phone rings repeatedly in the hall. Finally, his father answers. In true Tamil movie fashion, the veteran conspirator James begins speaking without even verifying whom he is talking to. While the father is silent, James mentions that the police are after him, that he dropped the 10 lakhs that GJ gave, and that if he gets caught, GJ will not be far behind. The father replaces the phone, and when GJ comes out, confronts him (though he does not know James' name). GJ is flustered, insists that it was a wrong number as Tamarai shows up, asking. He makes up some excuses and runs off to meet James at 'the usual place', as James has told his father. Father plays along when Tamarai asks, but he knows something is amiss.

The cops get the driver, and after he says none of the faces either  in a lineup and the police suspect book belong to his 10 Lakh passenger, they use -- get this -- a computer program to generate composites (true enough, it even has tabs like "Render", and the like). He manages to get a face that looks like James. Nagendra says to Velu, get this published in all the papers, without saying why he is wanted, and ask anyone who knows of him to get in touch.

James and GJ meet. James demands more money. GJ says for now, lie low, go and shave your head, and gives him some money for a barber, and some living expenses. Late rhe makes a call to Pandian and tells him to proceed with his plan to get Selvi off his back. Someone is clicking photographs. He returns to the car, and a voice comes from behind, "Why not give yourself up, GJ?" Expectedly, Selvi is in the back seat. GJ is calm, and talks slowly, admitting having kidnapped Andavan and Kathan, making a fool of Amar, and even says he will do away with Amar if need be. No one can touch him. You know, with the measured and clear tone he is using, that Selvi has a tape recorder going. So she does. Finally, she says, I've appealed to you as a wife. Now, I'm going to do my job as a person. She leaves the car. Someone is clicking photos of her. She takes out the cassette out of the tape recorder in her purse.

PENN
All about Akash. Akash comes back, a little surprised that his mother hasn't come to the airport, nor sent a car, nor even come out to the porch to receive him. Kala is cool. Akash does a fine rendition of a US returned student, mixing the right proportions of Massacussetts and Mandavali accents without going overboard on either. Kala probes him, asking if he knows Manohar and Ravindran. He says I used to know those guys in college, but they were medical, I engineering. Rather unnecessarily, he adds, they were not good people. Then she asks if he knows Anjali. Here he knows something is wrong, but he covers, making a silly joke about a Mani Ratnam film. Then Kala says that there was a letter from Dr. Manohar. Has she preserved the letter? No, she threw it away. But Dr. Manohar is now mad, sitting in a room chanting Anjali's name, she says. This is where the script falters. Akash makes no further inquiries, which is odd. Then he asks about Ranganayagi. He insists on calling her up. Kala does. Ranga has Deepa in the room. When Kala says Akash is here, Ranganayagi goes into an overdose of emotion, and wholly unconvincing acting. She splutters that on no account should Akash come there. There is a brief scuffle on both sides, on one side Ranga trying to keep the phone from Deepa, and on the other, Kala from Akash. Finally, Ranga speaks to Akash, and tells him he is being as ununderstanding as his mother, and there is no need for him to come until she sends for him. He musters all the outrage a US returned upstart thinks himself entitled to, and entertains Kala to all the American abuse (no bad words, though) he has picked up. Well done.

KOLANGAL
Mostly about Abhi Constructions. All go back to the would-be sellers, dragging the clueless Tolkappian with them. THe three holdouts point to Tolkappian saying he was the one that threatened them. Naturally, Tolkappian desists from doing the obvious, asking how and where he threatened them. He pleads, that even if they think he had threatened them, he is now saying go ahead and sell. A scuffle breaks out between Bhaskar and Tolkappian, after Bhaskar's intemperate remarks. The sellers are scared by this obviously comedic nature of this outfit, and say they will not sell.

Adi is pleased, and explains his clever plan and how it has worked out to the minister. Minister cautions him against counting his chickens before they are hatched.

Bharati and Anandi run into Prabu's widow. They try explaining things to her, but she is in no mood to listen. THey give up.

SELVI
GJ meets with James. Wants him to disappear, because Selvi is on to him (GJ), and James would be an inconvenient piece of evidence. James demands 10 to do so. GJ prepares to give him 10 thousand. No, I meant 10 lakhs, says James. Next day, GJ brings 10 lakhs. But, as James is taking the money back in a plastic bag, the auto rikshaw runs into a police checkpoint, manned, by an odd coincidence, by Nagendra and Velu. James takes to his heels, chased by Velu and a bunch of Chennai's finest. They come back without James, but with the bundle of notes. Nagendra says bring in the auto driver.

Selvi visits Dileepan. Tells him GJ is behind everything. He says in that case, drop it. I will be happy to go to prison. Immediately Selvi's mind is made up. No. GJ must pay, she says, and leaves.

PENN
Mohini is very mature suddenly. She says to her mother, I know why you are downcast. I have separated you from your job and your friends. Then she tells her mother she has personal problems. Men have been bothering her. The mother immediately attributes all these troubles to her separation from Senthil. They decide they should patch up with Senthil. But, Mohini says, I can't do that without returning their money. She reveals she has embezzled 10 lakhs. Mother says she will give it to her from her savings account.

Senthil is at the beach. Vijay approaches him and broaches the topic of his getting back together with Mohini, a suggestion Senthil rejects out of hand. Then Vijay mentions that people are trying to disfigure Mohini by throwing acid. Senthil says this is not something that happens to a family woman. That sets Vijay off, and a scuffle ensues. Swati separates them. Senthil says to her, if you are marrying into their family, good luck. They are frauds.

Muthukumar is enticed by Solai to his place. He is threatened to pay up or else.

Akash calls from Arignar Anna International Terminal. Says he is here, mummy, where is the car? Kalavathi says no car, take a call taxi home.

Aug 23

Kolangal
Big hoo-haa at Tiruvengadam's place. Many tears shed, much consolation back and forth as Abhi and mother visit, bearing gifts and support. Tiruvengadam himself, wise man, is away, preferring the local lodge to the hovel they have picked. Therein, he is busy getting drunk, talking big. Son goes to fetch him home, and he waves him away. Finally he hits upon a new plan, meet up with the eminent man whom his son met in Bangalore. Son says he knows how to find him.

The flat fiasco unravels. Three of the ten sellers fail to turn up at the sale registration. The others, on Bhaskar's recommendation, are paid off and their sale deeds registered. The cell phone, as usual, is never used when it could be of help. Instead of calling up the no-shows at the start, Abhi asks Bhaskar to 'put' a phone after all the other sales are through. The answer is some cock-and-bull tale about the seller having gone to Tiruchi. Abhi and contingent land up at the flats, to discover the three sellers right there. After a lot of hemming and hawing, the answer emerges. They say Abhi's partner Tolkappian threatened their lives if they sold. Abhi and everyone else is stunned. Bhaskar says let us go and confront the very man.

SELVI
Pooja discovers that the youngsters Pasupathi has beaten up are none other than Prabanjan and his friends. She drags him to Selvi's presence. Her majesty displays her usual haughtiness, dismissing Pasupathi as a hoodlum-for-hire. He says by doing what he did, he let them off with a mere visit to the hospital, where his chief Pandian would have dispatched them upward. One must be thankful for these mercies. Selvi goes to visit Prabanjan, where Click Click is also visiting. She and Selvi hit it off, after Prabanjan and she have explored the purity of their feelings for each other, unsullied by romance.

Niranjan and Ceylon Mani discover that she is all upset, hands shaking, etc. Niranjan says why not get GJ arrested. Ceylon Mani says Selvi is struggling with how to set things right without rocking everybody's lives.

PENN
Mainly to do with Solai and Mohini. Solai comes to Mohini's office, sits in Ranga's chair. Even visits Chitra and tells her that Mohini will soon be MD. By the time she has brought Badri, no Solai anywhere. Mohini denies anyone ever coming to her office. Chitra is without evidence. Badri warns them both not to entertain dreams of sitting in the MD chair.

Solai plays phone tricks on Mohini, who is now both irritated and worried. Her brother, who has been given a talking to by Swati, gives her a lecture. Finally she says, talk to me, not as a lawyer but as a brother. Whereupon he slaps her hard.

Aug 23

KOLANGAL
Tiruvengadam's wife is in hospital.Visiting her are Sharada and Abhi. Both are scolding her for not letting them know of her woes earlier. She says, this is something that we have to go through, so my husband will learn not to cheat others. If I had told you, Abhi, you would have bailed us out, and he would not learn a lesson. Sharada says, now, where will you go? You should come and stay with us. Not so, says the patient. We will stay separately and suffer. Daughter in law dittoes, adds that she and her sister-in-law plan to support the family. Abhi is impressed by this spirit. Says she will find them a house asap.

Bhaskar's mother and Suresh Scooterwallah go to her 'sambandi's house, tell him that she has 5 lakhs in the pipleine, when shall we have the wedding. He says, anytime. Son is pleased.

Ganga brings Tolkappian to a building site, makes him stand outside, goes off saying she has to phone the financier from whom she is getting a loan, and whom she wants Tolkappian to meet. Goes and calls Adi from a public phone. He says, plans changed, we'll meet another time. Make some excuse to Tolkappian and take him back. Meanwhile, a party that's going to sell this house to Abhi Construction is coming out, saying everything is settled. Four of Adi's men accost them, and threaten them with dire consequences if they sell to Abhi. They add that they are Tolkappian's men. Tolkappian is standing in the background, He makes a call, and simultaneously, the ringleader watches him and synchronizes his conversation, picking up his phone and saying he is carrying out the instructions. the party is awed by this goondaism. Ganga returns and says the financier had to take his wife to the doctor, so could not make it. Tolkappian is confused and senses something strange is about.

SELVI
Ceylon Mani turns around asks Selvi what she would do if she were in the same position? Selvi hesitates. I don't know, she says. Tamarai's father, who has long back moved into the house, but has not been seen since, appears. What's the matter, he asks. Selvi says she knows who has kindnapped Andavan. Then she reveals who it is, and says she has gone to Tamarai but she won't believe her. Tamarai's dad says Gj exploits the weaknesses of others, and their kindness. He advises her to go straight to the police with her evidence. She says she has to think of Tamarai, sachin, Aishwarya, and of her own infant daughter. Goes on a brief reverie on how women's equality is all good talk but hasn't reached the practical stage yet.

Pasupathi meets Praba and friends, advises them to stay away from Click Click. One of the friends pushes him, asking who thinks he is. Pasupathi then goes on a rampage, badly injuring all of them, including Beach Boy, who rushes to their defense. Later, they are all at the hospital, where Selvi has to make her state visit. Praba tells her all, then she sees Beach Boy, who is the one that told her all about the Andavan kidnap and gave her James' license.

Pasupathi meets Pooja, tells her he has located Amar.

PENN
Manohar is staring and talking to imaginary figures from the past. His father calls Sivadhanu and scolds him for giving Manohar these old pictures. Says he should not be reminded of old times. Comforts Manohar, tells Sivadhanu he (Vaikunth) is a changed man now, not like old.
In the office, Mohini is trying to hire five new recruits, and brilliantly tells them ahead of time, and all together, that they are to be her eyes and ears. She calls Chitra to give them their appointment orders, but Chitra scoffs at her. A near-fistfight ensues. Badri intervenes, agrees to appoint three of them. Later, one of them is calling Solai, saying she has managed to get hired, and Mohini has no idea she is his person. Next day, Mohini comes to the office. Who should emerge from the lift but Solai!

Aug 21

KOLANGAL
Tiruvengadam family is on the streets after the new owner (purchased house for 40 lakhs, real worth of home 2 crore, per Tiruvengadam) gives them notice to vacate by next day. Wife, daughter, and daughter in law completely taken by surprise by news of house sale. Tiruvengadam vows to make a comeback, and departs with furniture, perhaps to sell it. Mother sees truck depart, much breastbeating at their fate, then faints.

Bhaskar consoles mother and says a 5 lakh payment will be forthcoming shortly as commission for a sale. Mother has rupee signs dancing in her eyes. Sister thrilled too. Mother asks, that is from the seller. What about Abhi? Won't you be getting a payment from her?

SELVI
Selvi asks Ceylon Mani what she would do if she discovered her husband was wrong, assuring her the question is purely hypothetical. Ceylon Mani replies without hesitation -- I would keep shut. The motives are intriguing. She says, if he goes to jail, what happens to me? So much for pativratahood. Selvi is pleased by the answer (what an imperious creature) praises Ceylon Mani on how far she's come.

Tamarai brings Selvi's mother to see Amar. Tells her Selvi's extraordinary story. Mother pleased by new piece of information which can be used to advantage. At Amar's place, they find GJ, a surprise. Amar called me, GJ lies. Amar starts to deny it, but shuts up on GJ's firm insistence. Mother tells him, I have important news about your father. GJ has kidnapped him. Dead silence. Amar proceeds to confront GJ, when she adds, "that's what Selvi says. But don't you believe her." Amar backs off, with protestations of how much GJ has stood by him during these difficult times.

Pandian dispatches Pasupathi to set right the fellows who have been spotted hanging out with his daughter.

PENN
Kala changes her mind, comes back, and listens to Ranga's tape. Later Akash discovers (is told by his father) how the tape has already been delivered to Kala. Rushes to Kala's house (running, instead of motorbike, to get there quicker!) and makes up a flimsy story about some music tape. Kala quietly gives the tape back to him, having heard it already, and wondered about what to do about Akash.

Manohar is sitting in a room, staring at various old photos. Father sees him in this state.

Aug 18

KOLANGAL
Tiruvengadam tries without success to get a good price for his house so as to pay off the cops. Everyone realizes his desperation and offers a low price. He does not agree to any offer.

At Abhi Const., meeting to finalize purchase of existing homes for demolition and rebuilding. Bhaskar claims to have verified all the titles, loans, etc. Tolkappian tries to find Abhi, is told she is in a meeting. Peon Ramachandran stops him when he tries to enter the meeting room, telling him Abhi has asked him not to allow anyone ('anyone') to enter. Tolkappian is upset, but he keeps calmand enters the meeting room. Abhi is cold, and tells him she is busy, and to wait in her room. Like a schoolboy from a headmaster's office, he is dismissed to wait outside.

Anu looks for a job, claims she knows computer stuff, including, get this, C++ and Java. She accepts a front office job with a small subcontractor (working for Adi, though she doesn't know it) and agrees to do all and any jobs, including making tea and coffee at a stove.

Ganga comes to Adi with a report of what's going on. He tells her they should try again, asks her to bring Tols to see him, this time under a different pretext. He is givng Ganga a separate plot of land to develop. He wants her to bring Tols to see the lot.

Later, he has some of his hired goondas come to him and gives them some instructions.

SELVI
Pooja talks with Pasupathi, who has expressed his love for her. She says she will have to think of him. Later she meets him and says she will agree to love him if he does one job for her. She gives him Amar's photo and says she wants him destroyed. He decides he will do this and then go straight.

Later, Pasupathi is talking with GJ, telling him he is done with this life, except for one last assignment. GJ says, who, maybe I can help. He is about to take out the photo from his pocket when Amar himself shows up. He pushes the photo firmly back into his pocket and stares in amazement at this coincidence.

Selvi marches into the GJ/Tamarai residence, calling out for GJ. Both GJ and Tamarai come out. She accuses him of kidnapping Andavan and Karthan. Tamarai is shocked, GJ does his usual unconvincingly convincing act of denial. Tamarai says she doesn't believe him. Then, she suddenly turns to Selvi and says, do you think I would believe you? I just did this two minute act to get your hopes up.

PENN
Poongadi comes to Kailash's place. He is not there, but his father is. Father receives her with affection and she offers to clean up the place. She discovers the tape that Ranga gave Kailash, telling him to give to Kala if she should die during surgery. She gives it to Kasi, who goes on about Kailash's lack of responsibility. Meanwhile Poongadi's mother comes, gives her a tight slap, and drags her away. She is still puzzled and frustrated at why a boy who agreed to marry her should suddenly change his mind. (After Poongadi goes out with him to pour water to wash his hands, she tells him she is already married to someone else. He comes back and starts demanding a huge dowry, and the deal goes sour).

Kasi dutifully delivers the tape to Kala. Kala tells him that Akash is flying back from America to see Ranga.

She leaves home, and then returns to pick up the tape.

Aug 17

KOLANGAL
Mano's employer shows up demanding the money back, angry that Mano borrowed from him using a false reason. The family is ready to give the money back, but Anu steps in and says they (she and Mano) are the ones to pay back, and requests a short grace period to do so. The employer is impressed by her motivation and says ok, although Arati says something sharp, as usual, why don't you take the money we're giving you. Later, Anu speaks to Mano, saying he should get a steady job, and so will she, so that his mother will have the feeling that she is not depending on a daughter but on a son (devotion to promoting visions of male-female equality is what makes Sun TV part of the National Progressive Alliance). In any case, if they have borrowed money, it is for them to pay it back, and live with self-respect. Mother overhears, brushes away tears, and brushes away Arati, who is at hand to say something nasty.
Anandi and Bharati hear that Upendra and Prabhu have been killed, and they minister's group is trying to foist the blame on Abhi. The minister and Adi have are doing a fine job convincing Prabu's widow. When Anandi and Bharati show up, she drives them away.

SELVI
GJ tells Pandian rejects Pandian's suggestion to do away with her and tells him clearly not to take any precipitate action against Selvi, repeatedly tells him not to harm her. Pandian feels disappointed (who can blame him?) The conversation is being overheard by the beach-singer, who promptly goes to Selvi's house and tells all. Selvi cannot believe GJ is involved. Later she confirms it with James, who says the only reason he did't tell her this when he told her about pandian was because he thought it would be too much for her to bear all at once.

Tamarai has bought the oil factory, and is all set to run it.

Praba and click-click are at the beach with Praba's roommates, listening to the beach-boy, who is apparently able to travel instantaneously up and down the Coromandel Coast. Pandian's men spot her, and begin tracking her and Praba.

PENN
Poongadi's girl-seeing ceremony with her cousin Arumugam is arranged. Mother overrides her objections with the time honored Tamil cinema threat, suicide. She accedes, the boy and his parents arrive to see her. All have nodded approval, when boy says he needs to wash his hands (taking the kai ninaippadu literally). Poongadi begins to tell him something. He gathers she is not altogether in favor of the wedding.
Dr. Sivaraman tells Ranga about Solai's visit. She is intrigued (already depressed, asking the doctor not to save her). When she calls, Solai is coy, and she expresses a wish to see him. He says you have seenme long ago, and won't recognize me. (I mean, come on, don't you think she would guess this is the kid she gave up for adoption?)

Aug 16

KOLANGAL
Tiruvengadam is taken to some isolated place, where the cop demands 40 lakh rupees to persuade the Andhra police to drop the case. He denies wrongdoing, and threatens to expose their demands, but cop tells him that would be against his interests. He wavers.
Anandi goes to Bharati's house, and sees Bharati's parents lovingly taking care of Karthik. She is touched. Thanks Bharati, when he says after all, he is a friend of hers. She tells Bharati is he is more than a friend.

SELVI
Selvi arrives at Pandian's house. Pandian comes down the steps, called by his daughter (Praba's friend). She demands to know where Anadvan and Karthan are. Pandian is taken aback by her fearlessness. He says she should keep out of this. She says, why then did you get in the middle of something that didn't concern you? Do you have an enmity with Andavan or Karthan? He says: No....Did you have a grudge against Dileepan, who is facing a kidnapping charge? No... Then why? Because I was paid, he says. Who paid you? He says sorry, no fishing outside the off stump. She leaves, saying the day will come when he will be made to stand where he deserves to stand. Before that, he has given his reasons for his criminal life, society, police, politicians...
Praba meets his girl friend (what's her name, the tongue clicker). Some mush about friends for ever, romance if it arises.
GJ is summoned by Pandian (who acts as Pandian?) and asked who Selvi is. He says, finally, she is my wife. Pandian laughs. You can't control your wife? Mine, I broke her teeth and she is deaf in one ear when she tried to argue with me. Then GJ says he is currently not with Selvi, but with his first wife. Pandian is impressed. Finally he asks, should we do away with Selvi?

Tooodrum.

PENN
Previously, Deepa finishes her story. Ranga hears her and gets all upset. She tells Deepa to take revenge, but right now, go home and rest. After sending her away, she calls Kailash and says, what should we do, this is our Akash. We never knew he was so bad. But, she adds, we should not allow sentiment to interfere, and side always with Deepa. She tapes a message for Kala in the event of her death during the forthcoming surgery, and gives it to Kailash.
Kailash's father is shunning him. He says forget it, I am only going to marry Deepa, don't try to foist this Poongadi on me. Father is adamant.
Solai goes to visit Dr. Sivaraman, and offers any amount of money for Ranga's recovery. Sivaraman asks who he is. He says I am her son. Sivaraman is taken aback. He explains he is one of those numerous orphans who have benefited from Ranga's charity. Sivaraman sends him off with thanks. Outside, he crosses Badri, who knows he has seen him and heard his voice before, but isn't able to place him.
Mohini visits Solai's office and pays off part of the loan. Solai is there, and lets loose some dialogue about a parched man seeing an oasis. She says she is more than an oasis. Solai is delighted.

KOLANGAL
Tiruvengadam's wife and daughter in law are discussing their problems, and the waywardness of their husbands. Tiruvengadam and son arrive. Wife asks why he is battered like this. Son keeps quiet. She screams at him that he is going to drag their family down to the gutter. She says he has ruined his own daughter's life by marrying her off to a so called rich family, whose sone turned out to be a scoundrel. He wanted to prevent his son Satish from marrying this nice girl, and it was only by my (wife's) intervention that the marriage took place, thank goodness. What is going to happen? Tiruvengaddam protests. Meanwhile, the police arrive, carryign a complaint about his Andhra doings.

SELVI
James tells Selvi the man who kidnapped Karthan (kept under a bridge) and Andavan (in the middle of the sea) was a formidable man called Pandian. She says she wants to meet him. JAmes says he will arrange it.
Karthan is sleeping in the car. GJ gets down. It is the same bridge. Karthan wakes, and the place seems familiar. He realizes shortly where he is. He tells GJ, where have you brought me? This is where they had me tied, this is where I escaped from. GJ tells him, fool, it was I who asked them to kidnap you. Karthan tries to overpower GJ and run away, but one of Pandian's men beats Karthan over the head (with a foam contraption -- not a very believable prop) and after a couple of hits, be falls to the ground to be dragged off (even as the serial drags on).
GJ meets with Pasupathi, who works with Pandian, it turns out. Pasupathi is cool to GJ, who has just paid him for his efforts.

PENN
Anjali concludes her story:
After Jamuna left to meet Akash, who promised to give her some evidence implicating Manohar and Ravindran, I sat by Revathy. She said she hadn't gone to school for several days, and needed a letter to her teacher. I shut the outer door and went off to write the letter. When I returned, Revathy was missing. Looking around in fear and bewilderment, I discovered Ravindran holding her in the backyard, a pad of chloroform to her mouth. He was saying crude things about her and the baby she was carrying him. Manohar showed up, and as I fought them, then next thing I knew, they had chloroformed me. Ravindran and Manohare took me and Revathy to the sea on a boat, far into the waters, and dumped both Revathy and me, uncoscious, into the water. I had recovered 'conscious' even as they were dropping me, and managed to wash ashore, where a group of fisherfolk found me and kept me with them for 3 months. When I recovered consciousness, the first thing I asked was about Revathy. They didn't know. I went to Tanjavur, and didn't find anyone. Dr. Easvaran had left. Ravindran had left. Manohar had left. Manohar's father had disappeared. I went to Chennai, and the same thing. It was then that I decided to commit suicide, when you found me.
She continues (to Ranga):
YOu gave me the confidence to live. Then, I saw Manohar at the hospital when we rushed that girl from the factory. Then, I made inquiries and found he had moved to Chennai. I decided to track Manohar, Ravindran and Akash down and kill them. Iwas told Akash had abandoned his studies half-way and gone to America. Jamuna's neighbors said they had not seen her for three months (dating from the time she went to see Akash that day, the same day Revathy and I were taken away). This would be my only purpose in life hereafter. I began harrassing Manohar and turning him into a delusional madman. I want to track the other two and kill them all.
Ranga is getting emotional hearing all this, her mind full of Akash. Yes, Yes. You must kill them, she screams.

Uma comes to Rk's house and informs them her wish to help  to buy the college and run it. RK wants her to be careful as Abhirami is a very shrewd person. Rajeshwari advises her not to go ahead with the plan. Uma says the industry started by RK uncle should not be sold to go through the college deal. This is the the reason she wants to help Abhirami get it. RK tells her he sees his friend. Laxman's approach in her  words. He wishes her success. The documents are signed and Abhirami makes Uma the vice president. Shyam is against the deal . Sreenivasan and Santosh the promoter are enjoying a swim. The deal having gone through Sreenivasan got his commission and Santosh an opportunity to ruin Abhirami
Abhirami calls kanduvaddi to a restaurant and asks him how her visiting card got into the dead Dada's hands. Kvadd swears her he did not give it to him
Swati and her husband are playing with their son when ac Dorai arrives in uniform. He wants to know if there is a photograph of Divya's mother in their possession. He narrates that Swati had helped her during her sickness. Dinesh brings the album and picks out a picture of her
At the. Ayurveda clinic the helpers are having a chat about present day world. One helper says in the old days Rama And Arjuna stood as lofty figures. Even in the present there is one person she knows who is such a person. She promises to show him to her colleagues.
 
Malargal  Episode 211
Vidya is attacked by goondas trying to snatch her chain. Passers by get hold of the ruffians as they run away. A shattered Vidya is consoled by the crowd. Ramesh and Vignesh arrive and take charge of her. Seeing a cut in her neck Ramesh is agitated and wants to take her to the doctor and later to the police station to report the incident. Gounder and Sivakami arrive e welcomes them and leaves for the police station. Vidya follows him and pleads with him not to go now as his mother will return and create hell for her parents. Sivakami hears this conversation later she asks her daughter about her life inthe house. She tells her that the animosity is stil there but her husband loves her Sivakami asks her not to tell the father all this because he is burdened with problems.  Tulasi wakes up and knocks the door and a lady opens. She is the wife of the man who brought her here. She is dragged back and told she will be treated like a queen if she submits to him. Tulasi tries to run away but the guards were everywhere.
 
Kolangal               
Ishwar and Kishore's father come along with Satish. The police commissioner being a friend of kishore's father finds a way out on the promise they will be there for further investigation. Tiruvengadam  comes out on bail. Ishwar in the meantime had gone home to inform the ladies. He wanted to avoid meeting his brother when Tiruvengadam insists he want to come and thank himeashwar says they are on their way to catch a flight
Anu comes to her room  to sleep. Kartik had roamed into the room and lay on the ground. Anu didnot noie it. Kartik gets up and lies on the bed. His hands fall on Anu's shoulder. She gets up with a start to find kartik in her bed. She rushes out. Mano and his mother are shocked and angry crying. Bharat who had come to see kartik tries to explain his mental condition. Everybody wants kartik out of the house. Barat takes him to his house.
 
Selvi Episode 400
As Kathan calls out Selvi madam a strong grips him. GJ was there kathan shivers with fear. He tells. Kathan he will save him and he drags him along
Selvi calls out to Kathan and soon police officer is there by her side. He sks her who she is searching for in his dangerous area. She came to see one person. She tells him kathan rang her sying he knows where. Andavan is. Selvi is asked to leave as the police force are there to find kathan. Gj and Kathan run among the ravines as they had spotted the police kathan pleads for for food as he had not eaten for four days police officer finds a torn bush shirt with the name Dilpan on it. Selvi finds a crowd on the road with a bleeding  boy. She lifts the boy and rushes him to the hospital and donates her blood to save his life. She also phones the parents. As they rush to the hospital they are informed a lady brought the boyand also donated blood. She is in such and such room. It is Dilipan's room. The parents rush there and thank her. Selvi recognises the man as James the call taxi driver his wife goads him to go and tell her the truth to save an innocent man. Selvi was reluctant to seek some reward for the help rendered. James comes and tells her he wants to help. Selvi asks who abducted Andavan. He mentions Pandian and relates the whole story.

PENN
Vaikunth and Manohar discover the good lady hanging from the ceiling, a penance for Manohar's sins. Vaikunth cries and wails and then disappears. Manohar and Ravindran are talking with each other, discussing how Anjali is responsible for Manohar's mother's death. Ravindran's father pops in and tells them they are in trouble. If they did a DNA test on Revathy, the evidence would be damning. Let me talk to Anjali and straighten things out. They refuse, saying they would handle it their way. Manohar barges into Anjali's home, and smashes the place up, beating up Anjali and Revathy. Akash calls Jamuna (he is with M and R) saying he has evidence to convict them. Jamuna is at Anjali's place. She refuses to listen to him, but part of her is confused.

Aug 10

KOLANGAL
Discussion at Abhi Construction. Bhaskar is getting really familiar with Abhi, and giving her advice about business, and how Tolkappian has gotten too big for his boots. As are Rajamani and other colleagues. Abhi is still upset, but finds it hard to believe that Tols would betray their friendship by making deals with Adi. Similarly, Tols is upset that Ganga set him up in this manner. She says one has to grab opportunities when they arise. He disagrees.
Meanwhile, in Bangalore, Saravanan shows up and incites the crowd to demand their money back from Tiruvengadan. They do, and rough him up. Son Satish runs to Easwaran. When he describes his father's business, and tells him his father's name, Easwaran immediately knows who this is. He and Kishore's dad go with Satish to meet the Commissioner.

SELVI
Karthan manages to escape his captors and is roaming the wild countryside near what seems to be an Andhra town. He tries calling Amar from a public booth, using a borrowed coin. No answer. Then he decides, after a moment's reflection, to call Selvi madam. Lady Bond (what an apt name, Ammu!) responds, and rushes out to the spot, asking him to wait right there in the wild. Velu shadows her. He is shown standing on the roadside as her jeep rushes past. Next, he joins his boss Nagendra and both follow Selvi's vehicle. Karthan is shown responding to Selvi's call, when a hand is shown grabbing him.
GJ is furious with James for letting KArthan slip away.

PENN
Poignant acting. Revathy has been refusing food and has gone into a depression. Jamuna comes to Anjali's home, responding to her SOS. They slowly discover what has happened. Whoever acts as Revathy does this scene magnificently. She says she doesn't know what happened, only that she is pregnant. She is barely 16. It dawns on them that this has happened when she was in hospital, under the watch of Manohar's mother. They confront the lady. She is very upset, but unable to do anything to punish Manohar. She tells Sivadhanu she is going to do something that will punish hm and haunt him for the rest of his life. She says she is heading to their Madras house.

Aug 9

KOLANGAL
Ganga takes Tols on a long car ride. She won't tell him where, except that it is a meeting with someone (a VIP) for his benefit.At the hotel, she says he should go in and meet the VIP. It turns out to be Adi. Meanwhile, Bhaskar is hanging around at the hotel and spots Tols. Adi tells Tols Abhi is using him. He, on the other hand, wants to raise him up. What amount of money would he like to set up an independent business, or jointly with Adi? Adi says his quarrel is with Abhi, not Tols. Tols turns him down, saying he is a money-minded machine who cannot understand Tols' thinking. Adi is insulted. Tols walks out. Meanwhile, Bhaskar has called Abhi and Rajamani to the same hotel, and they are just in time to see Tols and Adi walk out of the restaurant.
Anandi stands her ground when Abhi spots her tenderly caring for Karthik. She says just as Abhi cares for Bhaskar, she feels obliged to care for karthik.

SELVI
GJ is still playing games with Amar's mind. Says deny you were even in Chennai, say you were in Pondy. After all, with a cell phone, they can't find out (they can, actually, but who's  thinking?) Nagendra, the SI calls Amar. Tells him he needs to see him immediately.
Tamarai and GJ talking. Tamarai wants to know what she should do abt. oil company. GJ hems and haws.
Ceylon Mani is sick. Seeing things blurred. Puja comes in and asks what happened. She says everything is fine. Did you go to the doctor. Lies that all was well.( I think they are getting set to write her out of the script.)
Selvi hires a call taxi from the same company and gets some other driver. She casually brings up James' name in the conversation. The driver says he doesn't want to talk about James. he has built a mansion upon doing all nefarious things. Only the owner supports him and keeps him employed, he says.
Last scene: Karthan gives his captors the slip, shows a sudden capacity to move like a Kenyan sprinter, and runs towards the sea. Did he jump? Find out tomorrow.

PENN
Jamuna is in the hospital, looking after Revathy. Sivadhanu and Mrs. Vaikunt come to see her. Mother is grieved at what her son has done. Revathy is fast asleep. Jamuna tells the mother about her parents. Mother says let her wash away her son's sins to some extent by looking after Revathy, while Jamuna goes and gets Anjali and takes care of her parent's funeral, so that they are not cremated as unidentified bodies (why this should be so is unclear. After all, they died in their home, and everyone knows who they are). After Jamuna leaves, Manohar and Ravindran come along. Manohar says he has doped the food Sivadhanu is bringing for his mother. She will be asleep for 8 hours, during which they can do whatever they want. (A quick observation here. These are unique ladies hostels and hospitals, where there is not a single soul in the corridors.). They enter, and Revathy wakes up. They say they are friends of Anjali. She addresses them as Anna. Ravindran administers an injection. She falls asleep again. They carry her out.

KOLANGAL

Tols goes to see Rajamani madam at home.She is surprised tos ee him there, and asksif this is something personal. He says no, it is owrk related. Then he argues against the purchas of land at increased price for speculative purposes. She is reluctant to hear him out. Instead, she launches out into a personal attack on him, saying he is not really someone she needs to listen to, that he is jealous of Bhaskar and covetous of Abhi, etc. He finally gives up, and leaves.
Tiruvengadam gets a threatening phone call from Saravanan. He curses him and says if you try to stop me or threaten me, I'll really wipe you out. Satish helps Easwaran and Kishore's parents, who are stuck in Bangalore when their driver accidentally hits a pedastrian. Though Satish doesn't know who it is, he helps him, via his Kannadiga driver who can speak the language, and disperses the crowd. Easwaran is grateful and gives him the card of the guest house.

SELVI
Somehow, with the metal map which has no names or addresses, Selvi reaches a villa on the coast, and meets a lady and her son. The lady says she is James' wife. James appears. Selvi tells him she wants to kidnap someone, so she wants the rental taxi. James hurriedly sends his wife and son away, and confronts Selvi. She says she has his license. he says he will not reveal who hired him, etc. She says you can talk to the police, and walks away. James phones GJ to give him a report.
GJ goes to Amar's home, and finds Amar distraught. He says now, to give the police an impetus, they need to do something spectacular. He should murder Dileepan. Amar is stunned. Why not hire someone, he says. GJ says that's too dangerous. He needs to do it himself, if he really cares for his father. Amar agrees, and is shown dressed as an attendant.

PENN
Anjali is being taken to the police van when Jamuna appears. She cries to Jamuna that at least she should believe her. Jamuna says she does. Then, from the same van, Akash says to Jamuna, I'm innocent. She calls him a traitor. Anjali's father disowns her in front of everyone. Then he goes home and pours a bucket of cold water on his head. He tells his wife and second daughter Anjali has committed murder.
Manohar has an argument with his father, who says, why did you kill Sunil. Manohar says coolly, you need to arrange to foist the blame on Anjali. Father says that is too difficult. Manohar insists. His mother, overhearing all this, cannot stand it any more and gives Manohar a few slaps, saying he is a killer and now wants to blame an innocent girl. He starts beating her and threatens to kill her. His father tries to intervene and Manohar pushes him aside. At this point, Jamuna is announced. She talks to Manohar's father alolne. She says, ask your friend, Dr. Krishnamurthy, who's doing the Post Mortem, to say Sunil died of an overdose of sleeping pills, not the injection. He hems and haws. She says otherwise she will raise it in the press, and both of them know who really did it.
Next scene, Anjali is at the police station, where the judge has remanded her for three days of inquiry (read, torture). The police inspector says to her, the report says sleeping pills, but if you don't confess, I'll have another case foisted, saying it was your talk with Sunil that caused him to take the pills. He hints that he's going to have to take physical measures if she doesn't cooperate.

Aug 4

ANANDAM
Shanti talks to Karthik, who phones. Tells him about her daughter's hostage incident, and how AC Dorai saved her. AC Dorai catches on to KVaddi's dada, who tries to kill enter the hospital and kill the hostage. He chases the dada, who accidentally falls off from the roof and dies. His superiours congratulate him. Abirami is shocked when KVaddi tells her that the investigation is reaching close. AC Dorai comes to talk with her.

MALARGAL
Shanumukam catches his mother talking ill of Tulasee. He regrets her doing so, but does not have the energy to argue. His uncle and aunt leave his cousin behind to look after him. Meanwhile, the madam of the establishment where Tulasee is accepts 5 lakhs from some seth to sell her to be taken to Singapore with him. Tulasee is beginning to be suspicious of what is happening.
Linga catches hold of some Andhra businessman who has double crossed him on a deal, and kidnaps him and beats him up. He has also captured the other party with whom the businessman dealt, and, allowing to escape, kills him at the door.

KOLANGAL
Anandi and Bharati find Karthik sitting on the roadside. They feed him and see where he can be taken. Finally Anandi brings him home. Her mother is furious. When she says she cannot bring Karthik here, Anandi says in that case I'll leave home, and leaves. Tiruvengadam and son Satish have set up a scam poeration in Bangalore. He manages to attract a large number of people who will give money to get consumer goods cheap. As he is talking, he spots Easwaran in a car, driving by.

SELVI
Selvi tracks down James. After a series of redirections, she goes is given a lates addrerss, whci turns out to be a temple. Outside is a swami, who gives her a metal plate with some markings. The policemqan Velu is following her. Aftr she leaves witth the metal plate, he approaches the swami, who refuses to answer his questions. When he threatens him, the swami vanishes before his eyes. Selvi is doing puja to the metal plate, which becems clearere.
Amar consoles his wife, and assures her his father will be found. GJ tries to say something to Tamarai about Selvi tring to find Andavan. Tamarai says who is Selvi trying to find Andavan, when she should be happy theat he has disappeared. he flounders.

PENN
Ravindran and Manohar are overhearing Anjali's conversation with Jamuna. They allow her to go to the hostel, but alert Akash to meet her there. She finds Akash in hir room, and when she asks how he got in, he tells her some answer about Jamuna sending him to look after her. She tells him about the evidence, etc. RAvindran and Manohare are waiting outside. They knowck and knock on the door. Finally Akash opens the door, then it is revealed to Anjali that hie is in league with them. He first breaks the evidence, then, when a crowd assembles because Anjali beats on the door the three young men undreess, as if to show that something has been happening between them and her. The warden believes them, and they give her a story about how Anjali had killed Sunil, and when they caught her doing it, she promised to dispense favors to them if they kept quiet. The polie arrest her, and the dean stikes adeal with the cops to quietly arrest and release the boys, and keep the scandal out of the paper.
As Anjali is brought out of the hospital by female police, her father is standing there.

Aug 3

KOLANGAL
Anandi is angry and upset on seeing Bharati's parents, and even more so when she hears they have blurted out things about Karthik, etc. She rushes to her office and scolds Bharati for saying all this. He apologizes. In the meantime, there is a phone call from the Mother at the seminary where Karthik is being cared for. He has disappeared. Anandi and Bharati rush there, and charge the Mother with negligence, but she says that the place is not intended for mentally disturbed people, and she had only made an exception because the priest had requested. Bharati says to Anandi, calm down, let us go and check. They travel by auto, looking in all directions for Karthik.

At Abhi Constructions, Abhi has decided to accept the increased price suddenly brought up by the landowners. Bhaskar is in favor of this, but Tols is not. Thols goes to her office and says he would like to speak with her alone. Abhi is cool. Is this personal or business, she asks. When he says business, she says then Bhaskar, Aarti and Ganga can remain. When he starts speaking, Bhaskar interrupts. Abhi now asks him not to intrude, and sends him to his desk, out of the room. He slinks away like a schoolboy. But she refuses to listen to Tols, and says her decision is final. Later Aarti asks her why she is not listening to Tols, who usually turns out to be right in business matters. She too is sent out to her desk.

Outside, Ganga's brother in law is chatting with everyone without doing his work. Aarti scolds him. The others in the office also tell him to mind his own business.

SELVI
Inspector Nagendra calls on Selvi to probe her on what she has found out. She is not ready to tell. But she does give him an indication that she is not scared of him, and is fully prepared to meet him in court if he brings proceedings against  her for interfering with the police investigation. He is uncertain what to do.

Sivamani has been told by the doctor that the baby could be dangerous to her health, as she has a weak uterus. But when she comes home, she hides this from Selvi.

GJ goes to James and asks him if he was able to get Andavan to sign the blank stamp paper. He says no matter how much they try, they are unable. GJ asks them to try again.

PENN
Anjali continues:
Sunil has recovered from immediate danger, and is lying in hospital. Anjali is on duty, and she sends Jamuna back home to rest, because she can look after him. While she is on duty, Manohar and Ravindran decide to kill Sunil (totally absurd logic) to prevent him and Anjali from living a happy life. They slip into his room, give him a sedative, and then proceed to smother him. They succeed in killing him, but Ravindran leaves the syringe and medicine vial behind. Anjali comes, sees that Sunil is dead. She tries to cry out for help, but her voice does not rise. She notices the syringe and vial, picks them up with a cloth, and then  turns around to see Ravindran and Manohar. They have come back to get the evidence, and proceed to chase her. She hides under the staircase, and manages to tell jamuna everything that has happened.

Meanwhile, at Anjali's home, her father snatches the letter from Revathi, and immediately heads to the college, promising to bring Anjali back right away. His wife and daughter try to dissuade him, but he will not listen.

Aug 2

KOLANGAL
Sunil, Anjali's fiance, somehow shows up at her room on the beach at Pondicherry, where she was with this other guy, who is planning to take indecent photos of her to blackmail Adi, her brother (complicated, I know, but bear with me). He says Adi wants them to head back to Chennai immediately. She is still besotted with her companion, and talks very little with Sunil. She is cold to Sunil's parents when they want her to accompany them to their family kovil, and rude to Usha when she comes to her room to ask what is wrong. She is thinking about the chap who plans to use her to get money from her brother!

SELVI
Selvi continues her investigations. She meets with the guy who beat up Dilipan, and surprises him by showing she knows all about him. He refuses to tell her who paid him to do this, although he does say he does this for money. The inspector, nagendra, is approached by GJ and Amar, who want him to speed up the investigation, and offer him a bribe. THey also complain that Selvi is looking into the matter. He is upset that a mere woman should be ahead of the police. Later he calls his assistant and asks him to tail Selvi. He also goes and threatens the taxi company owner. It is shown that the police are very good at threatening and roughing up people, but hopeless in investigation.
Another track, the girl on his paper route follows Prbanchan to the restaurant where he works, and is impressed that he can not only talk English but also Sinhalese.

PENN
Anjali defies her father, who wants to stop her from going to PG studies. At the PG college, Sunil approaches her, bothering her with declarations of his love. She tells him she has not time for this nonsense right now, she is focusing on her studies. Maybe later, she can consider it. He refuses to let go, and she gets up and says, go to hell, leave me alone. He, being a poet, takes it to heart, and after disgorging one of Vairamuthu's more forgettable poems to paper, proceeds to swallow a bunch of sleeping pills. His sister Jamuna discovers him the following morning, and rushes him to hospital. Anjali comes by after hearing the news, and reveals what happened the previous day to Jamuna.
Shortly thereafter, at Anjali's home, an anonymous letter arrives. Her mother, who is alone, opens it, and discovers it is about Anjali, alleging that she is roaming with Sunil and recently, with another boy called Murugan. It has allusions to her stepping out of their (brahmin) community in her romantic choices. Her mother is furious that people are out to defame her daughter. At this point her second daughter comes back from school. The mother hurriedly hides the letter, clumsily, and goes to make coffee for Revathi. Revathi discovers the letter by accident, and proceeds to read it. Her father is shown entering the house.

KOLANGAL
At the beach resort where she has gone with other friends, Anjali is enticed into a room by her companion, who wants to molest her, take photographs of himself doing so, and blackmail her rich brother into paying him 1 crore. After accepting his invitation to rest in his comfortable room, she realizes his intentions.

Anandi fights with Bhaskar's mother about her interfering with her life. It is none of her business why she and Tols don't want to marry.

The guy who was going to marry Abhi(?) now tells his parents he wants to marry Anandi, but she seems devoted to curing Karthik.

SELVI
Sivamani is pregnant. Much joy all around. Puja is first to find out. Selvi delighted. Gives her sweets.

Selvi tracks down the taxi company, and asks for James. The owner says he was hired by a foreign party the whole day that day. Selvi says then how come his ID card was found at the beach? After she leaves, the owner dismisses James for doing underhand work. One of the assistants calls GJ and says Selvi has tracked them down to this point, be careful.

The seth comes home to Tamarai and politely says the amount she borrowed is enough. He leaves it to her to figure out what interest she wants to pay. Tamarai is taken aback at his change of heart. GJ hears about this, and is about to blurt out that he is behind this change of heart, but stops himself just in time. He does this often.

The police inspector and his assistant Velu go again to the beach and rough up the daily vendors there asking if they had seen Andavan. One of them blurts out that a lady was asking the same question about the same photograph yesterday. He discovers that Selvi has talked to the singer, but the singer just says he told her he did not know anything.

PENN
Anjali continues:
They tried to molest me but I beat tem with a chappal and escaped. They complained to the dean, who called my father. My father wanted to take me home immediately and apologized to Ravindran, Manohar, and their fathers. The dean refused to dismiss her, and asked her not to misbehave again, for she was a good student and had just a year and a half left. Outside, her father insisted that she accompany him home. Jamuna stood up to him and said, hey, if you want to take her back, settle my 8 lakhs right now. That shut him up. Finally, I did manage to complete my studies despite constant irritation from Manohar and Ravindran. I even got several medals. Later I was home. I was about to leave to join a post graduate course. But my father stopped me, saying he wanted to get me married to an appalam exporter from a nearby town.

July 31

SELVI
Selvi continues to search for information about Andavan's disappearance by showing people along the beach his picture. After many shakings of the head by various people, she runs into a vendor who says he recognizes Andavan. He used to walk on the beach, he says. When she probes further, he gets leery, and refuses to say any more. Ask the guy there who's singing, he says, pointing to the fellow with a drum, who was there the day Andavan was kidnapped. She approaches him. He continues singing without answering her. Finally she says the ultimate tug to the Tamil heartstring, "I am asking you as my brother". That does it. He leads her to a spot on the sand where something has been buried. No, not Anadavan's body. It is an ID car for a driver of a taxi service. Selvi thanks him and takes it.

Minor interlude of Prabanchan. He is working four jobs, including the first one as a delivery boy, then a gas station attendant, a waiter, and then in the nights, at a mechanic's shop. At one of the homes where he delivers papers, a girl is attracted to him and follows him around. The next day she waits for him, adn asks him some questions. He says he has no time to talk, and rides on.

GJ goes to visit KArthan and Andavan. This is a faraway place along the coastline. He reaches an abandononed builidng (or one under construction) He tells the driver (whose ID Selvi now has) he needs Andavan's signature on a blank sheet. James promises to get it for him. Karthan is shown tied to a pillar, bloodied.

PENN
Anjali's story continues...
Akash tells his two buddies about Sunil and Anjali. They write a big note on the cement floor linking Anjali and Sunil in the college quadrangle, where everyone can see it. Anjali is distraught, but consoled by Jamuna. Later Jamuna confronts Akash, who plays innocent. Next scene, Anjali is shown with great resolve. A group of girls, including Jamuna are sitting in the cafeteria. Suddenly all of them leave, and only Manohar and Ravindran are left. The shut the door, and Ravindran puts his hands on her shoulders. She is petrified.
